see-it - Camera based, user centric daylight control system for optimized working conditions
In the project technologies in the field of building construction and building automation are being researched for quality and performance improvements in the workplace. The aim is to individualize the control of sun protection to the people who need to be protected from glare and overheating and hope to see through.
Urban wind energy - Development of methods for the assessment of small wind turbines in urban areas
The project "Urban wind energy" aims to create the basis for the assessment of roof-mounted small wind turbines (SWT) in urban areas. Therefore, methods for the characterisation of turbulent wind flow fields are developed and on the other hand the impacts of turbulent wind conditions with reference to selected turbulence indicators on the performance of small wind turbines are investigated. The overall aim of the project is to address the question how to evaluate sites in urban areas for the application of small wind turbines.
MURREAL: Murtaler Reallabor - On the way to 100% renewable energy by 2040
MURREAL connects the actors of the industrial region Murtal with specialists in the field of high tech and materials with the raw material and energy sector, service providers and research and development. In this exploration for a real laboratory, synergies had been worked out and business models had been built up to consistently take the path towards 100% renewable energy and climate neutrality by 2040.
Climate neutrality roadmap Klosterneuburg
Klosterneuburg is located between the Vienna Woods and the Danube floodplains, a city with a high proportion of green and recreational space while being close to Vienna. This location makes Klosterneuburg an interesting case study for researching climate neutrality – particularly in the areas of CO₂-emissions-free commuter transport, climate-friendly services, and CO₂ sequestration through forestry.
Multifunctional energy solutions in tourism
Multifunctional energy solutions for the tourism-region Alpendorf: Increasing energy efficiency, use of renewables, organisation measures considering existing cooperations.
QB3R – Quality controlled high‐performance components consisting of 100% bio‐based resins with high potential in repair and recycling
The QB3R project aims to develop an epoxy resin system having a 100% bio‐based carbon content. The QB3R resin will be processable with various different manufacturing techniques resulting in high performance components for long‐lasting material goods.
IEA SHC Task 59/EBC Annex 76: Deep Renovation of Historic Buildings - Towards lowest possible energy demand and CO2 emission (nZEB)
The goal of Task 59 was to document international best practice examples (knowledge base), develop a multidisciplinary planning process, and develop holistic retrofit solutions for historic buildings. As a knowledge base, the Historic Building Retrofit Atlas (www.HiBERatlas.com) emerged from the project. In the HiBERatlas more than 55 best practice examples are documented. In addition to the management of Subtask A (Knowledge Base) and Subtask C (Conservation compatible retrofit solutions & strategies), innovative technical and organizational retrofit solutions, which have already been applied in national demonstration projects and tested in practice, have been incorporated and further developed through the Austrian participation.
PSS Landmarks. Best Practice Examples for Product Service Systems
The project aims a strengthening the market for sustainable Product-Service-Systems (PSS) by clearly identifying success factors and hindrances. Restraining factors and basic conditions are worked out on the basis of best-practice examples.
IEA HPT Annex 51: Acoustic Signatures of Heat Pumps
The aim of the project was to increase the acceptance of heat pumps by reducing their noise emissions and vibrations and to reduce market barriers. Using innovative measurement and data analysis methods, influencing factors on the acoustic emissions of heat pump systems and the impact of acoustic protection measures were investigated. The results were prepared in the form of guidelines and recommendations for action.
Sani60ies - Demonstration of minimally invasive thermal and energetic refurbishment of classic 1950s and 1960s apartment buildings
System development of a façade-integrated building component activation for "warm" refurbishments with high transfer potential to buildings of classic apartment complexes from the 1950s and 1960s. The system is being tested and further developed based on three building projects and demonstrated through broad application (over 200 flats).
(BIO)-Gas fuel station in isolated network
Integration of gas processing and fuel station in isolated network into an existing biogas plant
City – Country – Climate: Four districts, one joint roadmap for a climate-neutral Gratwein-Straßengel
The aim is to initiate a structured and effective path towards climate neutrality 2035+ in the market town. In the context of the project, climate neutrality includes the topics of neighbourhoods and buildings, mobility and energy.
The Box - Thermal High Performance Decoupling - Next Generation Thermal Break Technology
The project pursues the overall strategic objective "solution of the problem-inducing heat bridge". For this purpose, the thermal bridging losses should be reduced by the factor of 15 in contrast to the state of the art. The significant increase in efficiency should rely on existing system solutions, but incorporating a new holistic view in terms of construction, geometry and materials.
Energy Efficiency and Risk Management in Public Buildings (EnRiMa)
The major objective of the project EnRiMa was to develop an internet based decision-support system (DSS) to enable operators of public buildings to increase the system efficiency as well as to reduce the CO2 emissions. The DSS can be linked to existing energy management systems as DESIGOTM. The University of Applied Science Burgenland, Campus Pinkafeld, and ENERGYbase, Vienna, have been used to test and calibrate the EnRiMa DSS.
BIGMODERN - Sustainable refurbishment standards of federal buildings constructed between 1950 and 1980
The project aims at developing sustainability and climate protection criteria for the refurbishment of federal buildings of the postwar period. These criteria will be tested for their practical suitability within the framework of demonstration projects. Subsequently, these criteria will be defined as fundamental guiding principles in the planning and building processes for all future BIG retrofit projects.
ZERIA 3 (Zero Emissions Research in Application)
Elaboration of the principles for zero emission enterprises. The results show that this approach can be realistic and economically advantageous in many cases.
Transition to sustainable production systems
The project aims to provide the basis for a transition strategy towards the establishment of sustainability-orientated production and consumption systems. Together with participants and addressees of the programme "Factory of the Future", the project will develop a common framework for the management of transition processes.
IEA AMT Task 12: Novel 2D materials and laser-based surface processes to increase resource efficiency in mobility applications
Friction and wear cause enormous global costs and CO2 emissions. At the same time, machines should become more and more reliable. Within Task 12, new concepts in material development and surface processes are being examined and advanced in order to reduce friction and wear.
IEA EBC Annex 75: Cost-effective Building Renovation at District Level Combining Energy Efficiency & Renewables
For the conversion of existing buildings into low(st) energy buildings with low greenhouse gas emissions, it is important to know which strategies are most cost-effective to reduce emissions and primary energy consumption of the buildings. In particular, it is important to find the right balance between energy efficiency measures and renewable energy measures. This question is addressed in this project.
Ecological and Social Efficiency Index - EASEY X
Basing on a model and indicators for valuing sustainability of companies quoted at the prime market of the Vienna stock exchange methods and instruments have been developed to analyse their performance. By the connecting step company data have been collected and analysed by four different methods (SPSS, EVA, SVA, MCA Outranking). On a 100 scores scale five companies exceeded barely the mark 70, 6 rank between 60 and 69 further 5 between 52 and 59. The aim is to launch a sustainability EASEY index 2004 or beginning 2005.
