IEA HPT Annex 48: Industrial Heat Pumps, Second Phase
Industrial heat pumps enable the use of waste heat and increase the energy efficiency of industrial processes. The aim of this project was to provide comprehensive information on the successful application of industrial heat pumps and thus contribute to the further dissemination of this technology.
Product service systems without risk (RISP)
In RISP a process model for the development of product-services is worked out, which consists of seven steps and so called "gates" between the single steps. The questions which have to be answered before entering the gates to the next step are derived from a failure mode and the effect analysis of the single steps.
Transfer of technology and know-how for the initiation of fermentation gas net feed-in pilot projects.
Target group communication of the technical possibilities of fermentation gas net feed-in. Information preparation and reduction in planning complexity. Support and networking of potential future plant operators. Establishing a service office as contact point.
IEA FBC Implementing Agreement Fluidized Bed Conversion (working period 2020 - 2023)
The aim of the project is to continue to further develop the internationally very well accepted participation of Austria in the information network of the IEA Fluidized Bed Conversion (FBC) Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) to optimize fluidized bed conversion of fuels applied to clean energy production (heat and power). All stakeholders will be included on a national as well as on a global level.
(energy central 400+) Marketable energy central from 400 kW with innovative, simple electricity conversion for residential building, public utility and commercial objects
Development of a marketable, decentralised "energy central" on a scale from 400 kW for the generation of electricity, heating (and cooling) for residential building, public utility and commercial objects, with a broad variety of applicable fuels on the base of regionally available biogenous residual materials.
Climate protection in Schools: a prototype for targeted oriented knowledge transfer for students on the basis of energy efficient buildings
The saying "Was Hänschen nicht lernt, lernt Hans nimmermehr." which can be translated with the English saying "You can´t teach an old dog new tricks." especially applies to the issue of "climate protection" in general. Therefore children must be made aware of the importance of the subject from the beginning on in order to live their life efficiently and environmentally friendly. Based on a research and on an evaluation of existing teaching materials teachers and students will develop, how students understand the topic "climate protection" with a focus on "building and living in the future" the easiest way.
IEA AFC Annex 34: Fuel Cells for Transportation (Working period 2026 - 2027)
With the market ramp-up of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), sustainable lifecycle management is gaining importance. This project investigates the end-of-life of these systems, focusing on disassembly, recycling, and recovery of critical materials like platinum. The analysis of a defective Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell aims to identify causes of performance loss and develop methods for repair, reuse, and recycling.
Villab – Exploration of a Villach innovation laboratory for the cooperative development of sustainable neighbourhoods
The "Villab - Probe" project serves to check the feasibility of an urban innovation laboratory to accelerate the transformation of Villach districts towards climate neutrality. Assuming positive feasibility, the cooperation with relevant stakeholders will be deepened and a business plan drawn up for a future innovation laboratory.
Gas supply by local mircro grids
Proof of the technical and economic feasibility of the utilization of fermentation gas from agricultural fermentation gas facilities by means of local micro grids.
SPACE4free - Retrofitting souterrain areas in 19th century townhouses to apartments with high quality of life and low energy consumption
Planning of durable and damage-free apartments with high quality of life and low energy consumption in moisture exposed souterrain areas of 19th century townhouses. Using innovative ventilation control systems comfortable room climate will be created. Additionally the tolerance of different types of use is ensured. A planning tool enables the scaling of the findings and thus the applicability to various planning situations.
Linking Low Carbon Technologies with Low Carbon Society
The project „Linking Low Carbon Technologies with Low Carbon Society“ was conducted on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology. In the course of the project a number of recent empirical studies on rebound effects were analysed. Based on this comprehensive analysis an overview of strategies for rebound management was compiled and policy recommendations for the technology sector were developed.

ISEC 2022 is a forum for research, business and energy policy. The conference focuses on Renewable Heating and Cooling in Integrated Urban and Industrial Energy Systems.
Pioneer region for Smart Grids in Vorarlberg: Smart voltage control at the DG-demonstration grid
DiCYCLE - Reconsidering digital deconstruction, reuse and recycle processes using BIM and Blockchain
DiCYCLE aims at identifying, analysing and mapping current End-of-Life processes in the building industry, as well as optimizing those for digitalization, using BIM, Blockchain and Smart Contracts. The goal is to enable sustainable digital planning, construction and deconstruction workflows for reuse and recycling of building materials and components along the life cycle.
Actuator based combustion optimization for fine dust reduction
By additive use of actuators in combination of adaptive algorithms a multi-functional logic for fine dust reduction in thermal gasification boiler systems for wood-combustion has to be developed in the context of a thesis at the TU-Graz.
Poly2Facade - Innovative thermal self-regulating solar facades by means of functional polymers
The overall objective of the present project is to develop and implement an optimal overheating protection system based on polymeric materials. The aim is to reduce maximum room temperatures in buildings caused by facade integrated solar-thermal collectors in stagnation.
Immobilization of Lipases on Corn Cob Granulate - New Key Technology for Biodiesel Production
The main objective of the project is to improve the method for producing biodiesel by enzymatic catalysis. The target is to find a method to catalyze the production of fatty acid methyl esters by corn-cob-immobilized lipases which can be used in industrial scale.
