HOTSPOTS - Holistic thermographic screening of urban physical objects at transient scales
HOTSPOTS enables new insights and perspectives for city development. According to the project idea innovations in acquisition and sensing as well as densification of geo-referenced city related data are supplemented by novel processing chains in city data analytics. Driven by an integrated scientific approach we develop a novel method in the selection, evaluation and prioritization of infrastructural city development measures which is directly derived from sensed data hence reducing the risk of ad-hoc decisions or lack in impact.
SeasonalGridStorage - Innovative seasonale thermal storages for urban district heating grids
Sensible storages, which are currently used in district heating networks for seasonal storage of excess heat (e.g. from solar thermal or industrial waste heat), exhibit high space demand, investment costs and heat losses. Within this project, concepts for using innovative storage technologies, e.g. thermochemical storages (TCS) having high heat densities and enabling pressure- and lossless storage, were developed and analyzed on a technological, economic and ecological basis. Additionally, the regulatory framework has been evaluated.
COP5+ - Further development of a heat- and cooling system with seasonal heat storage at the example of Central Europe´s biggest geothermal depth drilling field
The aim was to increase the overall energy efficiency of Plus-Energy-Houses by making the heat excess of summer available for use in winter. This was carried out by improvements of the technology seasonal heat storage to an intelligent overall system. The biggest geothermal depth drilling field in Central Europe has been established.
IEA SHC Task 54: Price reduction
IEA SHC Task 54 was an interdisciplinary, collaborative project with the main focus on significant price reductions of solar thermal systems. Measures to achieve a reduction of the customer price up to 40% included simplified system designs, standardized components and cost-efficient materials and production and installation processes.
CircularBioMat – Recyclable biogenic materials for building installations and supply equipment
As part of CircularBioMat, numerous bio‐based materials – including bio‐polymers reinforced with natural fibers as well as recycled materials – are being tested for their suitability as a replacement for the petroleum‐based polymers that dominate technical building installations (TGA) and supply equipment.
CircuPack - Recyclable materials for food packaging with a low ecological footprint
The goal of the project is to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly food packaging with an improved ecological footprint. It is important to develop a new process control that ensures both food compatibility and the sustainability of the resulting product.
P2PQ - Peer2Peer im Quartier
The research project Peer2Peer im Quartier deals with applications optimizing the selfconsumption of PV-generated energy within urban quarters by enabling peer-to-peer relations among energy prosumers based on Blockchains. Aim is to develop and validate these applications in real operation.
Life Cycle Assessment of Electric Vehicles - Steps Towards Circularity & Climate Neutrality
15. - 16. May 2025
BMIMI, Radetzkystraße 2, 1030 Wien, AT
Based on the context of Climate Neutrality and Circularity, the aim of the IEA HEV Task 46 expert workshop is to analyse, assess and discuss the environmental effects of electric vehicles, the scientific assessment approach and its practical relevance for industry, government and consumers.
Analysis of the sealing water costs in the paper- and pulp industry
From all information should be made a tool for soul-searching, which allows all operators of pumps to calculate the possible reduction of costs (energy, cost of operaton, amount of fresh water, ...).
Rebuilding of the organic farm Achleitner, straw & clay - room climatisation with plants
Rebuilding of a marketing-, store- and processingcenter with an organic freshmart and an organic restaurant in passivhouse quality. Application of regional building materials, an innovatve overall energyconcept, climatisation with plants.
