Plan4.Energy – methodological set for the planning support of positive energy districts
Plan4.Energy develops a set of methods to support the planning of positive energy districts. The data-based system integration will enable a user-friendly quantitative assessment of the possibilities for building a positive energy district. This will allow stakeholders without the relevant background knowledge to realistically assess different project variants.
Smart Pölten 2.0 Holistic view on a Vertical Farm in preparation for a demonstration project for the city of St. Pölten
The city of St. Pölten forsees great potential in Vertical Farming with regard to the objectives related to the concept of the Smart City program - linking local food production, quality of life by reducing resource consumption. This has to be evaluated by combining Vertical Farms with existing living buildings. Eco-social and socio-economic considerations play an important role in this process.
COOLSAN - refrigeration concepts for office and administrative buildings retrofit

Technologies to enhance comfort and minimise energy requirements for air conditioning in existing office and administrative buildings. Possibilities to reduce the cooling loads and strategies for the use of passive cooling systems.
Digital Twin of a Dynamic Hardware Emulator: Challenges and Opportunities
6. December 2022
Online, AT
To meet the new challenges and maintain the reliability of the electrical grid with increasing share of static generation, innovative solutions are required. This lecture will present digital twin development challenges and opportunities of a dynamic hardware emulator that can be used for controller hardware in the loop (CHIL) testing.
win wi[e]n: block development ground floor zone: Optimization of the Viennese block renewal programm as a tool for a sustainable development of street level and open (public) spaces of urban fabric
Development of the Viennese Block Renewal Program with a special focus on the ground floor zone of historical urban fabric (on the basis of the case study Block Renewal Area Ilgplatz, Vienna): sustainable restructuring and reusing of the blocks at ground level, including courtyards and street spaces- as a comprehensive planning approach.
i3 - SustainableFoodManagement
It is the aim of the project to develop a model of sustainability management for a company of the meat processing industry. The management model includes strategy development, goal setting, evaluation of achievements of goals and support to the operationalisation of the model in form of an IT-system. The model is designed and implemented for the production processes of the company in year 1, and in the further years for the whole company and the value chain of the company.
IEA TCP Fluidized Bed Conversion (FBC). Working period 2013-2016
The Technology Collaboration Programme includes the collaboration, the exchange of relevant information and networking in the area of fluidized bed conversion of fuels applied for clean energy production.

March 20th, 2018, 9:00 - 16:30
TUtheSky, Getreidemarkt 9, Vienna
The 11th Highlights of Energy Research will focus on system integration and coupling of sectors. National and IEA research projects in the areas of energy systems and grids, industry, mobility and buildings and urban systems will be presented.
Energy-efficient army barracks

Holistic sanitation concepts for three selected army barracks belonging to the Austrian armed forces to achieve the standard of a low-energy house. An increase in energy efficiency and corresponding models for implementation agreed with large-volume buildings with due consideration to the special conditions prevalent within the Austrian armed forces.
Renovation with passive house technology by master-builder – verified planning documentation – Guide and seminars
The project aims at an increased implementation of passive house technology by the planning as well as the operating master-builder.
"gugler! build & print triple zero" - Subproject 8: Leuchtturm gugler – Ökoeffektive Plusenergiedruckerei
On the basis of the commercial building gugler with 2140 m² useable floor area existing and 3260 m² useable floor area to be built a concept for a 100% recyclable ecoeffective building had been developed.
Existing building reconstruction and implementation of passive house components

Implementation of passive house components, systems and techniques into the practice of existing building reconstruction, in order to reduce the energy consumption as much as possible and to increase the living quality substantially. Craftspeople and planners, who are specialized in building renovation, should gain access to passive house know-how.
IEA Bioenergy Task "Biogas"
Evolution and circulation of the biogas extraction of organic materials through Austrian attendance and collaboration in an international net as well as management of task-emphases
Effects of Green Cities
Current status of scientific knowledge on urban green structures and regulating effects
SpeedReg - Prompt quality assurance of the commissioning process of buildings
The focus of the project is on quality assurance within the commissioning process with the aim to speed up and to improve the operational adjustment of newly constructed or comprehensively renovated buildings. The fragmented know-how which is hardly accessible for the relevant target groups will be consolidated and elaborated in the form of a practice guideline which will be directly applicable in commissioning processes in practice. In this way the project contributes to the development of a common, well-established standard for quality assurance within the commissioning of buildings.
Offices in times of climate change
Study about the impact of climate change on the thermal comfort in office buildings. Special attention is paid to the users´ behaviour. Basic information for the development of detailed strategies for adjustments by the real estate industry and by politics, who are actively involved into the project by participating in start and result workshops.
NaKaReMa - Improving the sustainability of cable sheathing through regional, bio-based and recycled materials
The NaKaReMa project takes a holistic approach to cable sheathing for automotive applications and their improvement in terms of sustainability. To this end, various approaches are being investigated - both regional raw material sources to reduce transport routes and bio-based raw materials to reduce dependence on crude oil. The use of recyclates from cable sheathing to close the cycle through recycling is also being investigated.
IEA-DHC Annex TS2: Implementation of Low Temperature District Heating Systems
The potential of alternative heat sources is highest at low system temperatures, but current district heating networks are usually high-temperature systems. The aim of the IEA DHC Annex TS2 is to support the transformation of district heating networks towards lower temperatures (the so-called 4th generation). For this purpose, Annex TS2 forms an international platform that enables an exchange on the topics of technology, system, demonstration and competitiveness.
IEA Cities Task 2: Data for Urban Energy Planning (Working period 2025 - 2029)
Cities consume 60–80% of the globally produced energy and play a central role in the energy transition. However, they face challenges such as insufficient data, missing methodologies, and legal barriers. The project offers practical solutions, best practice examples, and tools for urban energy planning. The focus is on international knowledge exchange, improved data access and quality, as well as collaboration with multipliers and municipalities.
VITALITY District - Optimized energy concepts in the early planning phase of resilient, energy-efficient neighbourhoods
The aim of the VITALITY District project is to coordinate the total (electrical and thermal) load and generation profile in the design phase of urban areas and neighbourhoods in order to optimize the energy concept of energy-efficient districts. Hence smart city indicators in detailed level (buildings, individual technologies, public spaces) as well as models, principles and catalogs of criteria for energy-optimized urban neighbourhoods were created. The results were presented in compact form on the district level in order to serve as input for future urban planning projects.
