6. June 2013
Bella Center, room 19
Copenhagen, DK
IEA Bioenergy Task 32 organises an expert workshop on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) aided design as a side event of the EU Biomass Conference to share practical experiences and address the current opportunities and limitations of CFD based design of industrial biomass combustion appliances
Workshop: The Role of Storage in Energy System Flexibility
22. - 23. Oktober 2014
German Federal Ministry of Economic AffairsScharnhorststraße 34-37, 10115 Berlin, DE
This workshop will focus on the evolving nature of the grid, with the goal of identifying novel approaches, RD&D needs, other areas not well covered but needing attention, and innovative case studies related to electricity storage in a flexible electricity grid of the future.
Development of a Window for Passive-Housing Featuring an Integrated Sun Shield
Development of a laminated wooden/aluminum window for a passive-housing featuring an integrated sun shield in the shape of blinds or of folding net curtain.
Specification for biomass heating systems for buildings with low energy demand
The aim of this project was to develop specifications for biomass heating systems for buildings with a low energy demand. The focus was on multi-family residential buildings and office buildings.
Sophokles - Solar shading lamellas with photovoltaic coating for climate-neutral, energy-efficient structures
Development of lightweight, strip-like photovoltaic modules that combine shading and emission-free power generation in one monolithic component. The size and module voltage of the photovoltaic blinds can be individually adapted to the conditions of the building. The core of the innovation is an interconnection concept for thin-film solar cells, with which the film-like photovoltaic material can be interconnected in series and in parallel as required.
FFF-TaliSys - Freeform Systems for Daylighting to be Integrated in a Façade and in a Skylight
In the course of the project FFF-TaliSys novel daylighting systems based on freeform surface technology were developed and implemented into functional models, thus, innovative systems that solve the contradictory requirements of daylighting systems.
Pathways to sustainable construction. Experiences and prospective European research strategies
The aim of this study is to investigate the international research context of the programme "Building of Tomorrow" (with a focus on central, eastern and southern European countries) and to identify co-operation potentials.
IEA AFC Annex 31: Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (Working period 2017 - 2019)
Task 31 is a research and development oriented Task with the objective to contribute to the identification and development of techniques and materials to reduce the cost and improve the durability of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs).

Sol2Pump - High efficient combination of solar thermal plants, photovoltaic and heat pumps
Targeting a high level of decentralised energy supply on basis of renewable energy, the project analysed the possible combinations of solar thermal energy, photovoltaic and heat pumps. The project aimed to maximise the domestic energy supply due to utilisation of the building as short term energy storage. In addition to that, several optimisation measures had been developed. The impact on the energy supply and demand will be economically assessed through life cycle costing. On this basis, the potential load transfer and the use of this kind of systems had been evaluated in combination with smart grids.
Passivhauswohnen³: Facility Management for Residential Property Developers: A Key to Optimizing the Reduction of Energy and Operation Costs
What soon will be considered "standard" in ecological building must be carried out by the property developer and accepted by the future user. Therefore, in order to assist a smooth implementation of the new passive housing technique and begin the corresponding feedback mechanisms, a specific KMU "quality and incentive model" should be launched. The interrelationship of this model is designed with the property developer as well as the user in mind and aims for lasting "behavior modification" in energy and operational expense consumption.
Quantitative and qualitative identification of relevant secondary raw material flows in Austria
In the course of the raw material initiative, the European Commission classified a number of elements and basic materials (including rare earth elements, gallium, germanium, platinum group metals and tantalum) as critical raw materials because of their doubtful future access. In order to operate appropriate recycling of these particular critical raw materials, the primary aim of the present project is to identify the waste streams and to investigate their quality and the quantity of critical raw materials. As a basis for presented aim a "Secondary Raw Material Map Austria 2030", which represents the theoretical, the real and in the future reachable potential of this critical secondary raw materials, is developed.
Energy R&D 2021: Public Expenditures in Austria
The public energy research expenditures amounted to 224.1 million euros in 2021, thanks to the economic stimulus plan. This is the highest value so far and an increase of 44.4%.

Sustainable Housing - Services creating individual and social advantages
Contemporary sustainable solutions for residential building will be optimised and realized by interdisciplinary planning orientated to the life-cycle services supporting the quality of life and intelligent use of information and communication technologies.
Optimisation of logistics for different supply and distribution systems at large biogas plants
Technological and economic analysis and suggestions for the continual improvement of logistics for the supply and disposal of material at biogas plants.
THERM-opti-BALCONY: Thermal Optimized Renovation of Balconies
Pre-cast cantilever balconies represent a particular problem in the thermal renovation of buildings. The central goal of this project is the development of practical and cost-effective mounting solutions for the thermally decoupled reconstruction of balconies on building frontages and achieving a significant increase in the energy performance of the thermal renovation measure.
Effects of Green Cities
Current status of scientific knowledge on urban green structures and regulating effects
FEELings - User Feedback for Energy Efficiency in Buildings
User behavior is a key factor for the energy consumption and the actual energetic performance of a building. A new type of user feedback system will be investigated in this research project. Users provide feedback on the sensed room quality. The data obtained by the feedback system are used to optimize settings of building services in order to improve the energy efficiency and the comfort in the building. A basic proof of concept of this system will be undertaken by means of two use cases.
