RCC – Reduced Carbon Concrete: Implementation of CO2-redudes concrete in construction sites
The objectives of the present project "RCC - Reduced Carbon Concrete" were to test the current knowledge about the temperature-dependent curing processes of performance concretes by concrete work on large components on the construction site, under summer and winter conditions, and in precast production. The results will be incorporated into construction practice and standardization work.
"Communal living for elderly - ecological, social and economical aspects" - eco-com.60+
The research project examined different forms of communal living of elderly people and contributes to the development of new, common forms of living for the elderly. Questions concerning demographic change and economic as well as ecologic challenges of our time had been dealt with.
IEA PVPS Task 13: Reliability and Performance of Photovoltaic Systems (Work Plan 2024 - 2025)
IEA PVPS Task 13 engages in focusing the international collaboration in improving the reliability of photovoltaic systems and subsystems by collecting, analyzing and disseminating information on their technical performance and durability, providing a basis for their technical assessment, and developing practical recommendations for improving their electrical and economic output in different climatic regions.
IEA ISGAN Annex 7 - Webinar: A Nordic carbon-neutral energy system enabled by flexibility and storage
30. June 2020
Online
This webinar discusses the flexibility measures enabled by smart grids and sector coupling that can help countries and regions make the deep decarbonisation of their energy systems a reality. It will discuss some of the opportunities and challenges of balancing energy and power in a larger perspective and in some local perspectives in the Nordic countries.
Edible Seestadt - Green Seestadt - Learning for the Edible City of the Future
"Edible Seestadt" ("Essbare Seestadt") identifies which contributions an edible city provides for a climate-neutral resilient district and how this contribution can be sustainably stabilized and optimized.
Success strategies for product service systems (PSS)
Development of success oriented planning strategy for Austrian PSS providers based upon an analysis of best practice examples and international systematic PSS development approaches.
Contracting as a instrument for renovation
Development of contracting models for comprehensive renovation service packages.
International Passive House Summer School for Students (PH-SS)
Summer school / workshop for design, construction and calculation of buildings in the passive house standard for students from Austrian and European universities.
OPEN HEAT GRID - Open Heat Grids in urban hybrid systems
The primary research topic of OPEN HEAT GRID was to investigate the possibilities of enforcing the feed-in of industrial waste heat into existing district heating networks. The project results show that excess heat is not for free: despite minimal variable costs, the investment costs need to satisfy usual payback periods. The analysis shows that there is no need for a regulation in the sense of a feed-in obligation or market liberalization. However, from an economic point of view, information asymmetries exist, which may lead to irrational decisions.
Urban MoVe - Private law contracts as innovative instruments for city and mobility planning.
The research project Urban MoVe investigated to what extent private-law contracts (e.g. mobility contracts, funds, urban development contracts) are suitable as municipal planning and steering instruments for mobility at residential locations based on best practice analyzes and implemented national practical examples.
Space & Green. Possibilities for integrating greening into the regulations of Austrian spatial planning
The R&D service "Raum & Grün" (Space & Green) prepared a study that depicts the interrelationships between spatial planning and greening, shows the need for action and the scope for action by actors, and formulates concrete recommendations on how innovative urban greening and greening of buildings can be effectively anchored in the regulations of Austrian spatial planning.
Innovation and Sustainability in the Construction and Housing Sector
Concepts for enhancing in-house innovation in construction; development of performance and benchmarking indicators in the housing sector. Economic proposals to improve legal and structural business environment and to increase sustainable and energy efficient construction and renovation activities.
BIMBestand - BIM-based management of existing buildings
The objective of this research project was to develop information requirements and process descriptions for the application of BIM models related to building services in facility management and to demonstrate the lifecycle-oriented use of these models in an open BIM environment. For this purpose, software solutions for the use of IFC in the open-source platform SIMULTAN and building management software were developed and evaluated on the basis of four typical use cases.
Energy Flexible Buildings – Potential and Performance

ecoRegeneration: Development of a "Merit-Order" in order to assess regeneration heat for geothermal probes within urban residential neighbourhoods
In urban residential areas there are not enough active-cooled usages, to use the waste heat of the cooling process as required regeneration heat for geothermal probes; free cooling of the apartments is not sufficient. The project is developing various options (waste heat from commercial uses in the ground floor zones of residential buildings, by using waste heat of data centres, additional installation of heat generation systems for regeneration) within the urban settlement area, business models and is calculating life-cycle-costs of all solutions. The result should be a kind of "merit order" for regeneration heat.
"gugler! build & print triple zero" - subproject 6: Integration of the C2C production into the flagship project Gugler
Print and media production at the media and communications company gugler GmbH are currently being optimized according to Cradle to Cradle (C2C) criteria. The goal of this subproject is to allow the demands of a C2C production process optimized for exchange with biological cycles to be included into the general planning of the new production building of the company, a pilot project within the "building of tomorrow" program line.
PowerShade - Development of electricity-generating shading solutions for energy-flexible buildings in urban space
The main goal of the cooperative R&D project "PowerShade" was the development of low-cost and universally usable electricity-generating shading solutions for energy-flexible buildings in urban space.
Optimization of methane production - the Methane Energy Value Model
The biogas production from energy crops will be analyzed and optimized. Energy crops are grown in an environmentally friendly and sustainable crop rotation system. The project provides a secure basis of data for the biogas production and utilisation. Farmers will invest more into the biogas technology.
