IEA Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC)

The IEA's Solar Heating and Cooling program has been carrying out joint research activities in the field of solar thermal energy since 1977. The focus is on the active and passive use of solar energy for heating and cooling of buildings, solar district heating and solar heat for industrial applications.

FT-Biofuels in Austria

Development of a realistic concept for the production of Fischer-Tropsch-fuels from biomass in a size of about 200.000 to/a in Austria. Comprehensive evaluation of this concept with respect to available biomass resources, and economical and ecological benefits.

IEA SHC Task 70: Low Carbon, High Comfort Integrated Lighting

With the goal of decarbonization and sustainability of buildings in the sense of the circular economy, for integrated lighting systems the so far purely energy-based focus must be broadened to include the entire life cycle, with special consideration of visual and non-visual user requirements. In the task, strategic, technical, and economic information will be developed for the relevant stakeholders and networking activities will be offered.

The project aim on one hand is to evaluate and adapt current trainings in the field of biomass, solar thermal energy, photovoltaic, heat pumps and ventilation and on the other hand to define new potential trainings in case of further demand. This shall be a fundamental basis to prevent the threat of the absence of professionals and to increase the quality of already converted projects.

IEA Bioenergy Task 40: Deployment of Biobased Value-Chains (Working Period 2019 - 2021)

IEA Bioenergy Task 40 traditionally focused on international trade and supply chains of biomass for bioenergy. Starting in 2018, the systems view was broadened, also to better meet Austrian requirements. The supply chain focus was maintained, but with a broader premise: The establishment of bio-based value chains for a sustainable and fair bioeconomy.

GLASGrün - Regulation of climate, energy demand and comfort in GLASS buildings through structurally integrated vertical GREEN

Development of vertical vegetation systems for summergreen shading of glass facades of food retail and commercial areas. GLASGrün generates quantitative data on energy and microclimate balance and qualitative data on user perception. The results are guidelines for scalable and transferable constructive solutions with maintenance and management plans.

High-quality refurbishment - Designing quality standards for the refurbishment of municipal buildings

Designing quality standards for ecological refurbishment (based on E. Panzhauser's proposals, 2001); applying them to characteristic types of buildings systematically selected in diverse municipalities; the achieved results shall serve as good practice examples for future refurbishment and as basis of discussion on subsidy regulations.
