Summary
The goal of this project was to develop the technique and components necessary for the production of thermal flat collectors, or 'facade collectors', which can be installed directly and without any back ventilation onto facades.
The objectives in developing facade collectors were:
- The opening of a new market segment through the possibility of direct installation of the collectors onto the front area.
- The reduction of thermal energy-related costs by about 30%.
- An additional passive utilisation of the solar energy in the adjacent rooms.
- The creation of an architectonically high quality style element for facades.
- A factor 4 increase in the "useful unit" resource efficiency of the collector through the choice of proper materials and the multiple utilisation of the component parts.
- A maximisation of the possibility of later recycling, through the appropriate choice of materials and connections used.
