The IEA PVPS Task 17 focuses on the potential contributions of PV technologies to the transport sector as well as on the expected market potential of PV application in the transport sector.
IEA PVPS Task 14: High Penetration of PV Systems in Electricity Grids (working period 2014 - 2018)
The IEA-PVPS Task 14, led by Austria as Operating Agent, promotes the use of grid connected PV as an important source in electric power systems on a high penetration level where additional efforts may be necessary to integrate the dispersed generators in an optimum manner. In a number of case studies from the participating countries, the challenges and approaches in the field of distribution networks, system management and power electronics components were shown in an international context. The result being elaborate reports with targeted recommendations and required measures to significantly increase the share of photovoltaics in electricity grids.
IEA Wind Task 27: Small Wind Turbines in High Turbulence Sites (working period 2018 - 2019)
By participating in the IEA Wind Task 27, a number of goals could be achieved, including the development of a site assessment scheme for wind turbines in areas with high turbulence intensities, the further development of the IEC 61400 standard, the participation in the “Compendium of IEA Wind TCP Task 27 case studies “And the update of the “Small Wind Power Report 2018” as well as activities such as holding the event “Small Wind Power Conference” in Austria.
IEA PVPS Task 12: PV Environmental Health And Safety (working period 2016-2018)
The aim of IEA PVPS Task 12 is to foster international collaboration in the area of photovoltaics and environment. That includes compiling and disseminating accurate Information on environment, health, safety, and other aspects of sustainability associated with the life-cycle of photovoltaics. The austrian contribution addresses LCA, implementation of sustainability aspects and dissemination.
IEA Wind Task 19: Wind Energy in Cold Climates (working period 2013 - 2015)
The international experts elaborated two guidelines on the current state of wind energy utilization under icing conditions: the "State of the Art Report" and the "Recommended Practices Report". On a national level, Energiewerkstatt compiled a comparative report on international approval procedures with the assessment of icefall risk, a report regarding operational experience with a stand-alone power supply unit as well as a report on the evaluation of different ice detection systems.

Since 2013 Task 27 is focussing on small wind turbines (SWT) in high turbulence sites. By actively participating in the IEA Implementing Agreement Wind Energy Task 27, Austria’s stakeholders will become participants in the global small wind network. The establishment of a national working group as well as the organisation of an annual small wind conference in Austria will foster a durable collaboration and provide new impetus to the Austrian Small Wind Community.
IEA 4E Annex Electronic Devices and Networks Annex - EDNA (working period 2017 – 2019) Task 3: "Intelligent efficiency". Project: "Basket of products testing"
The "Electronic Devices and Networks Annex “EDNA” has emerged from the background of the global increase of electronic devices and digital solutions, which requires the evaluation of the energy efficiency of these devices. Energy efficiency measures should be developed and improved, and technological and regulatory challenges need to be addressed. The aim of EDNA is to develop policy and strategy recommendations for decision-makers, concerning network connected devices.
IEA AFC Annex 35: Brennstoffzellen für portable Anwendungen (Arbeitsperiode 2017 - 2019)
Annex 35 umfasst den Austausch von Informationen und Forschungsergebnissen über die neuesten Entwicklungen im Bereich der portablen Brennstoffzellen. Neben der Systementwicklung werden die Herstellung der Membran-Elektroden-Einheit (MEE), die Systemkomponenten, wie der elektrische Konverter oder die Gasversorgung, der Aufbau und die Auslegung von Hybriden sowie die Aspekte der Sicherheit und Normierung behandelt.
IEA AFC Annex 31: Polymerelektrolytmembran-Brennstoffzellen (Arbeitsperiode 2017 - 2019)
Annex 31 ist ein forschungs- und entwicklungsorientierter Task mit dem Ziel der Identifizierung und Entwicklung von Techniken und Materialien, die zur Kostenreduktion und zur Lebensdauererhöhung von Polymer-Elektrolyt-Brennstoffzellen (PEFCs) führen.

IEA-PVPS Task 13: Performance and Reliability of Photovoltaic Systems (working period 2010-2018)
The Task 13 provides a common independent platform whereby quality aspects of PV systems and its components are elaborated and exchanged amongst the stakeholders, and disseminates this knowledge to different market actors.
IEA PVPS Task 14: High Penetration of PV Systems in Electricity Grids (working period 2010 - 2014)
The main goal of Task 14 is to promote the use of grid-connected PV as an important source in electric power systems at the higher penetration levels that may require additional efforts to integrate dispersed generators. The aim of these efforts is to reduce the technical barriers to achieving high penetration levels of distributed renewable systems.
IEA AFC Annex 33: Stationäre Applikationen (Arbeitsperiode 2014 - 2017)
Das Hauptziel von Annex 33: Stationäre Applikationen ist die forcierte Technologieentwicklung von Schlüsselkomponenten und Systemen. Die Marktimplementierung bzw. Transformation soll durch die Analyse und Entwicklung der hierfür erforderlichen politischen Rahmenbedingungen und Instrumente unterstützt werden. Die derzeit vorliegenden technologischen, ökonomischen und politischen Barrieren sollen identifiziert, Lösungen entwickelt und die Barrieren sukzessive abgebaut werden. Die Österreichische Energieagentur vertritt Österreich im Annex 33 – Stationäre Applikationen.
PH Office - Criterions for energy-efficient office buildings
The passive house standard and energy-efficient building technologies are getting increasingly important for office buildings, too. However, standardisation is not completed on the same level as known from the residential building sector. The project at hand brings in definitions and makes a suggestion on a standardised calculation method for office buildings in passive house quality.
IEA PVPS Task 12: Umwelt, Gesundheit und Sicherheit (Arbeitsperiode 2016 - 2018)
Ziel ist es, internationale Zusammenarbeit zur Umweltwirkung von Photovoltaik zu unterstützen. Dazu gehören Erstellung und Dissemination von verlässlichen Informationen zu Umwelt, Gesundheit und Sicherheit sowie aller Dimensionen der Nachhaltigkeit über den gesamten Lebenszyklus der Photovoltaik.
IEA Wind Task 27: Einsatz von Kleinwindkraftanlagen in Gebieten mit turbulenten Strömungsbedingungen (Arbeitsperiode 2016-2018)
Die Mitarbeit der Technikum Wien GmbH im IEA Wind Task 27 ermöglicht die Anbindung der österreichischen Kleinwindkraft-Community an internationale Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten im Bereich der Kleinwindkraft. Die Fortführung der nationalen Arbeitsgruppe Kleinwindkraft sowie die Durchführung einer jährlichen Kleinwindkrafttagung in Österreich stellen eine dauerhafte Vernetzung der österreichischen Kleinwindkraft-Akteure sicher und sorgen für neue Impulse.
IEA IETS Task 22: Climate Resilience and Energy Adaptation in Industry under Uncertainty (working period 2024 - 2026)
The main objective of this task is to promote understanding and progress in digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), and related technologies in order to enable climate resilience (extreme weather and events) and energy adaptation (electricity, heating, and sector coupling) in energy-intensive industries. Specifically, the challenges of energy flexibility and demand response will be identified by means of surveys of Austrian stakeholders and the results presented nationally in a workshop format.
IEA 4E Annex EDNA: Elektronische Geräte und Netzwerke Annex (Arbeitsperiode 2022 - 2024)
Bis 2030 soll die Zahl netzwerkverbundener elektronischer Geräte weltweit auf über 100 Milliarden steigen, mit erheblichen Konsequenzen auf globale Energieverbräuche. Der IEA 4E Electronic Devices and Networks Annex – EDNA hat daher zum Ziel, Maßnahmen zur Förderung der Energieeffizienz netzwerkverbundener Geräte zu empfehlen und wichtigen Stakeholdern wie politische Entscheidungsträger:innen und Produktentwickler:innen in Form von Berichten, Policy Briefs und Tools zur Verfügung zu stellen.
IEA 4E EDNA: Electronic Devices and Networks Annex (Working period 2022 - 2024)
By 2030, the number of network-connected electronic devices worldwide is expected to exceed 100 billion, resulting in significant consequences for global energy consumption. The IEA 4E Electronic Devices and Networks Annex - EDNA therefore aims to develop policy recommendations to promote the energy efficiency of network-connected devices, and make those project results available to key stakeholders such as policy makers and product developers in the form of reports, policy briefs and tools.
