The project’s intentions were to provide social scientific groundwork, develop building structures and utilization options of high social functionality and to transfer knowledge to decision makers in communities and regional authorities.
Beacon of innovation gugler cross media, ecoeffective zero energy cross media enterprise featuring zero-emission, zero energy, zero waste
The aim of the flagship project is a new dimension of sustainability (cradle to cradle, ecoeffective zero energy enterprise) for business operation and building, which means zero emission, zero energy, zero waste. This will be shown on the basis of a beacon of innovation: Gugler GmbH, a modern sustainable media services enterprise (traditional print and new media) will extend their current building from about 2100 square meters and about 90 employees to about 5,000 square meters.

Entwicklung von Methoden zur Automatisierung der operativen Produktionssteuerung unter dem Gesichtspunkt des nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens
Die Reihenfolge, in der Fertigungsaufträge abgearbeitet werden, beeinflusst nicht nur logistische und betriebswirtschaftliche Kennzahlen, sondern zeigt auch direkte Auswirkungen auf die Umweltrelevanz sowie auf die Arbeitsergonomie und Arbeitspsychologie. Ziel des Projektes war die Entwicklung von Verfahren zur optimierten Auftragsreihenfolgeplanung unter Berücksichtigung einer ganzheitlichen Bewertung im Sinne des nachhaltigen Wirtschaftens.

Demonstration of feasibility of renovation of an official building in high thermal and energetical quality and consideration of further sustainable criteria.
EDEN - Developement of a structured data and preparation documentation with a minimized error-proneness for energy performance cerificates.
Current energy performance certificates hold major flaws. Therefore, the presented research initiative aimed at the development of a standardized and easy-to-use, generic Input-Data-Documentation, which ensures the quality of energy certificates for all involved stakeholders. During the development, the documentation had been conducted and for a chosen sample of representative buildings, which is expected to demonstrate the high potential of such a development.
SUPROMED: Reprocessing and Reuse of Single Use Medical Devices in the Light of Sustainable Development Criteria - Implementation in Austria
In contrast to other countries there is currently no reprocessing and reuse of single use medical devices in Austria. Thus the potential for major ecological and economical savings remains unused. In a stakeholder dialogue, practical implementation strategies were developed to change the trend towards a sustainable value-added chain.
Ressourcenschonende und nachhaltige Erzeugung von Qualitätsstählen durch verbesserte on-line Prozessführung der Vakuumentgasung (SUSPRISE Joint Call 2007)
Für die Vakuumentgasung von flüssigem Stahl, wie sie bei der Herstellung von Qualitätsstählen zum Einsatz kommt, wird ein verbessertes on-line Überwachungs- und Steuerungssystem entwickelt und eingesetzt. Damit wird die Prozesssicherheit des Vakuumprozesses erhöht und gleichzeitig der Energie- und Rohstoffverbrauch gesenkt.

Produkt- und Systementwicklung zur thermischen Sanierung von Altbauten durch den Einsatz von magnesitgebundenen Holzwolleleichtbauplatten
Ziel dieses Projektes ist die Überprüfung der Wirksamkeit der magnesitgebundenen Holzwolleleichtbauplatte zur Innendämmung bei der Altbausanierung bzw. das Aufzeigen von Ansatzpunkten für die Weiterentwicklung von Produkten in diesem Einsatzbereich. Dabei werden - parallel in theoretischen Rechenmodellen und in Feldversuchen - ein entsprechendes Klima im Innenraum erzeugend die Auswirk- ungen auf die Behaglichkeit und auf die bestehende Bausubstanz untersucht. Des- weiteren wird eine Beurteilung der Nachhaltigkeit durchgeführt.

Based on a systematic listing of appropriate methods, recommended actions have been developed to reduce the cooling requirements in new or renovated buildings on three levels: a) optimization and use of appropriate urban structures, b) design strategies and passive measures for building concepts, c) reduction of cooling requirements through integrated planning processes.

Das Betriebsverhalten eines Prototypen wurde getestet, Optimierungspotenziale aufgezeigt und ein verbesserter Prototyp auf dem Teststand sowohl anhand seiner Kennlinie als auch im realen Betrieb im Kleinmaßstab anhand eines realistischen Lastprofils vermessen.
