Product and system development for an inside thermal insulation construction of historical houses using magnesite bonded wood wool panels

The objective of this project is to examine the ability of magnesite bonded wood wool panels as an inside thermal insulation system, especially for houses with historical facades and to acquire starting points for further development of the products and components being used. Parallel to the data which will be calculated in a theoretical FEM-model, a field trial will be carried out to prove the influence on the inside room climate. In addition the sustainability of the system will be analysed.
AIDA – Affirmative Integrated Energy Design Action
The AIDA project aimed to increase the number of nearly-zero-energy-buildings, the number of building professionals trained on integrated energy design and the number of municipalities starting to build/refurbish buildings to nZEB levels.
SOL4 business and training center Eichkogel

Demonstration project for sustainable construction of a working and living environment
Renovation of the "Gründerzeit" building Eberlgasse in passive house standard
Based on the latest available technical capabilities, the renovation of Eberlgasse 3 will show that passive house standard is achievable even in a typical 19th century building.
Comfort and cost optimised air guiding concept for energy efficient housing
Ventilation systems for dwellings can be more efficient in terms of cost and energy, if the air guiding concept with cascade principle (overflow of air from sleeping rooms into living room). In this project, the planning principles had been developed and published in practice guidelines.
Reconstruction ecological Freihof Sulz

integral reconstruction of the valuable cultural heritage "Freihof Sulz" to a communication- and action centre; Demonstration project for local culture and life quality, old building techniques, energy saving and ecological reconstruction."
New Standards for Old Houses. Sustainable Renovation Concepts for Houses on Estates Built Between the Wars and Post-War

The many housing estates of detached houses in Austria built in the times of economic crisis between the wars and post-war as part of publicly funded housing programmes are the starting point for this research project. The aim is to offer detailed guidelines with basic planning principles for the renovation of these housing estates with detached houses, aiming to reach the standard of a low-energy house or a passive house.
Energy-efficient army barracks

Holistic sanitation concepts for three selected army barracks belonging to the Austrian armed forces to achieve the standard of a low-energy house. An increase in energy efficiency and corresponding models for implementation agreed with large-volume buildings with due consideration to the special conditions prevalent within the Austrian armed forces.
An analysis of the factors supporting and hindering the market penetration of innovative residential buildings

An empirical analysis of the most important factors in supporting or hindering the market diffusion of selected technologies or different innovative residential concepts.
BIGMODERN Subproject 3: Demonstration building University Innsbruck - Main building of the Faculty for Technical Sciences - Planning process
Demonstration of feasibility of renovation of an official building in high thermal and energetical quality and consideration of further sustainable criteria.
Increase of in-house consumption by building clusters and active storages (Eigenlast Cluster)
The project involved the evaluation of the significance of new approaches for the increase of in-house consumption of solar energy (electric energy and heat) of buildings in Großschönau, which are already equipped for such measurements. The existing municipal buildings, commercial buildings and households are aggregated to form virtual building clusters. Subsequently, the clusters were analyzed according to their in-house consumption with and without the usage of batteries and H2 storages. The economic analysis of this concept derives from a regional implementation plan for further industrial research.
Strategy development for (technical / economical feasibility of) energy autarcic buildings
Development of a strategy for energy autarcic buildings with appropriate Technology solutions.
Ventilation and heating in passive houses: Comparison of variants in terms of thermal comfort and sustainability
This projects aims at systematic resarch on thermal comfort and the sustainability of heating passive houses with and without air heating. The results of the comprehensive investigation of different variants will provide valuable information for building developers, planners and for funding decisions.
PASSIVe house renovation, Makartstrasse, Linz

Modernization of a multistorey block of flats with 50 units (built in 1957/58). Renovation up to passive house standard.
New4Old - New energies for old buildings
The project "New4Old - New energy for old buildings - Promoting the integration of RES & RUE measures in historic buildings" aims to promote the integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies into historic buildings, and to create a European-wide network of Renewable Energy Houses in the different Member States of the European Union.
Demoobject energy-autarkic solarplant
Within the project at hand a production plant with store house and offices had been constructed. It serves as a reality testing field for long-term measurement of components and systems developed in previous projects. It serves for the demonstration of innovative energy systems and components for the interested public and for experts.

theoretical topics: Optimization of natural light, ambient humidity and of private exterior space, planted over buildings, evaluation of the energetic performance and special challenges of large volume "Passivhaus" residential buildings. applied research: concept for the renovation of a 13 storey residential building for senior citizens built in 1974 to PassivHaus standards, applying the results attained in the theoretical part.
ThinkHome: Improved energy efficiency based on artificial intelligence in future homes
ThinkHome is a networked controlled home of the future with the ultimate goal to optimise energy efficiency and user comfort at the same time. On this way, smart interaction between all building services is of utmost importance. Goals of this project include the definition of a comprehensive knowledge base that holds all relevant building data, the evaluation of control strategies based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as agent based software engineering.
