IEA ISGAN Annex 5: Smart Grids International Research Facility Network (SIRFN). (Working period 2019-2021)
The Smart Grids International Research Facility Network (SIRFN) aims at improving the implementation of Smart Grids technologies by collaboration between smart grid testing facilities, test beds, and large-scale demonstrations. The focus during the working period 2019-2020 was laid on the implementation of extended interoperability tests and innovative laboratory testing methods for decentralised energy resources. By active participation, Austria’s position and leading role on the forefront of international Smart Grids development was strengthened.
Service packages for the ecological renovation of buildings
Services for a comprehensive ecological renovation should comprise advice, design and construction as well as "green" building assessment and innovative financing models. Such services are developed together with companies in the construction business and tested in pilot projects.
Innovative energy services in the sector trade and industry
Systematic reduction of THG in the sector trade and industry through market economical energy services. Research project to improve the energy efficiency of the end user as well as the integration and utilization of renewable energy in the energy service models.
aspern + Vienna's Urban Lakeside - sustainable urban development
The focal points of the largest urban development project in Europe are the topics public space and microclimate as well as cross-building energy supply. Landmark projects will be implemented in the areas residential buildings, office/industry buildings and mobility.
IEA ISGAN Annex 3: Benefit/Cost Analyses and Tools of Smart Grids
Together with experts from 11 countries, the EI-JKU has analysed cost-benefit models and developed proposals for their adaptation and further development. In the course of the work, the EI-JKU dealt in particular with two questions: how such an evaluation model can be adapted to Austrian conditions and which socio-economic factors influence the question of whether an end consumer emerges as a winner or loser from Smart Grid-based functionalities.
Innovative Concepts for Pumped Storage in Liberalized Grids
In liberalized grids the requirements for pumped storage equipment rise dramatically. The development of a controllable pump turbine to help stabilize the grid is one of the possible solutions to this problem.
Formation of an Austrian EPD-Platform for building products
The objective of the project at hand was to create the general program guidelines for the "Austrian EPD-platform for building products": basic guidelines, general guidelines for LCA, general guideline for determination of emissions to indoor air and environment during operation phase.
HEROES - Houses for Energy- and ResOurce Efficient Settlements
A simplified method will be developed for the calculation of environmental indicators for so far not considered building elements (eg. constructions, which are not thermally relevant and HVAC-components). The theoretical principles for the calculation of the primary energy demand and the CO2-Emissions for operating and raising a building will be harmonized.
