Gründerzeit with future - demonstration project 2: ROOFJET Wißgrillgasse - sustainable solution for improving the thermal-energetic performance of a typical historical building in Vienna

The main aim of the project ROOFJET Wißgrillgasse is a building refurbishment by a factor of 8 which demonstrates that even historical buildings can be refurbished to lowest energy standard.This demonstration project shows a holistic and sustainable refurbishment concept for a special type of buildings with innovative technical and organizational solutions.

Gründerzeit with future - subproject 5: Documentation and monitoring

The main aim is the documentation and monitoring of the demonstration projects within the scope of the project "Historical buildings of tomorrow" with regard to the technical implementation, investment and operation costs and to the energetic performance. All demonstration projects will be accompanied by an evaluation process regarding occupants' satisfaction and the refurbishment process. Beyond that, legal constraints for innovative refurbishment of historical buildings will be documented and proposals for adaptations of the rental law and refurbishment subsidy schemes will be developed.

Development of basic principles and proposals for highly recyclable constructions. A catalogue with main principles of recyclable designing with a particular focus on material inherent bonding and joint techniques as well as a selection of constructions including ecological benchmarks, calculation of building physics plus costs was created.

The aim of the subproject 7 is to aggregate a "normal" general planning process with innovative additional services. In the spirit of integrated planning in the design a higher number of design parameters must be resolved. AC/DC Office Buildings - Implementation of Electricity Networks with Alternating and Direct Current in Office Buildings - Feasibility and Energy Efficiency Potentials

Based on a literature and technology review this projects aimed to document and demonstrate already available and reasonable concepts for the implementation of electricity networks with alternating and direct current in modern office buildings. Focus of the study was to assess the feasibility in general and the energy efficiency potential in particular but it also documents necessary technical equipment and expected advantages and disadvantages. Additionally, important research questions for energy supply, energy distribution and application of direct current technologies were formulated.

Zero Carbon Village - energy autarcic settlement

Development and demonstration of a totally CO2 neutral and energy self sufficient residential area, produced in prefabricated straw bale constructions. The focus of the research is put on industrialized modular mass production of "Zero Carbon Houses", energy self sufficiency and the use of energy efficient and sustainable materials like straw.

Urban consolidation Lehen - Subproject 2: Development - intelligent E-Monitoring

In the oppositional subproject 2 technical and organisational requirements for the transformation of the innovative Smart Metering-concept will be developed. Through the connection of the application of Smart Metering with an active integration of the inhabitants over mutual communication the concept, which is planned for the key project Urban Consolidation Lehen stands out of other comparable antedated activities.

Connection of innovative strategies and technologies to a holistic, resources-friendly plus energy building (FUTUREbase)

On the basis of a construction project in Giefinggasse 4 in Vienna the combination of new, innovative strategies and technologies to an integrated, resources conserving plus energy building with high signaling and multiplication effect had been tested for feasibility. A regional, energetical bond between the buildings TECHbase, ENERGYbase and the Klima-Windkanal had been developed.

ECR Energy City Graz-Reininghaus: Urban strategies for the new conception, construction, operation and restructuring of an energy self-sufficient city district

The aim is the development of a valid set of specific values and a guideline as a basis for energy self-sufficient district development. Based on the results, a masterplan (energy-network) for the district Graz-Reininghaus shall be developed. Future-oriented "city-building-blocks" will be implemented as flagships of innovation.
