VERTICAL FARMING - Investigation on requirements of a Vertical Farm-prototype development for crop plant production

In the center of interest stands the investigation of fundamental principles for a new building typology – the Vertical Farm. Urban vertical food production can contribute to more energy efficient cities by concurrently reducing land use. Substantial influencing factors to achieve these goals are intended to be revealed.

BIMSavesEnergy - BIM-based planning-methods for the assurance of energy-efficiency in the building process

The Building Information Model (BIM) brings about fundamental changes in the planning and construction of buildings, as the common base makes it possible to work closely together across disciplines in construction projects. In this project, BIM-based planning methods were developed, which make the influence of planning decisions on energy efficiency quantifiable and controllable in the management process.

SC_micro-quarters – Planning and modernisation of smart city quarters with a view to energy optimisation and a high quality of life

The SC_micro-quarters project demonstrates possibilities for urban planning and urban quarter development with a view to creating a path to a low carbon city with a high quality of life and good resilience, while taking into account existing and proposed buildings, infrastructures and uses. The central element is the modelling of urban structures at micro-quarter level.

Applied research and development of a construction concept for road construction that enables the establishment of large-crowned urban trees and is tailored to specific local requirements, such as metrological, geological, and climatic conditions. The results are taken as a basis for a standard construction concept for densely built urban areas.

Plus Energy Melk - Path for the realization of Plus-Energy-Districs in Melk

The city of Melk has set itself the goal of playing a pioneering role in renewable energy supply and climate protection. In this context, an initiative aimed at implementing Positive Energy Districts. Two urban development projects are currently underway to examine under which framework conditions, technical and organisational solutions Positive Energy Districts can be realised. A proactive participation process aims at informing developers and investors as well as other stakeholders about the realization of PlusEnergy concepts.

Housing 4.0 - digital platform for affordable living

The main aim of this project is the development of an integrated framework for the digital platform "Housing 4.0"; thus supporting integrated planning and project delivery through coupling various digital tools and databases. Thereby, the potentials of BIM for modular, off-site housing assembly in order to improve planning and construction processes, reduce cost and construction time and allow for mass customization will be explored. The novel approach in this project is user-involvement; which has been neglected in recent national and international projects on off-site, modular construction, supported by digital technologies.

COOL-QUARTER-PLUS - GHG-neutral cooling of office and research quarters

Development of systems for the emission-neutral cooling of office, research and urban quarters on the basis of photovoltaic or geothermal energy supply and user integration. Life cycle cost calculations and analyses of grey and operational greenhouse gas emissions allow a holistic assessment.

Enerspired Cities - open and harmonized infomation basis for energy oriented urban planning

In "Enerspired Cities" the concept for an automized junction of judicial secured access regulation to (geo-)energy data is elaborated. This will be adapted to the specific situations in the cities of Innsbruck, Salzburg and Vienna and implemented in dedicated pilot applications. The declared aim is the support of urban planning, monitoring and research by an easy and transparent access to base data coming from various sources for a wide range of users.
