The emerging development of smart grids provides market opportunities for new ICT-based services ("smart value-added services"). Economic and organizational barriers are foreseeable that could affect the establishment of business models and service providers (data formats, connectivity, controllability, etc.). In order to improve the chances especially for new and local actors, SMARTIES proactively tries to eliminate hindrances of innovation.
Knowledge into school - Development of teaching materials for technical and vocational school
The main objective of the project is to produce teaching-materials based on Ecobuilding ("sustainable building") for secondary schools / technical schools (Berufsbildende Höhere Schulen and Berufsschulen) in cooperation with school stakeholders (education experts) and by using e-learning platforms.
Development of affordable building equipment and services for future "Energy Plus houses" (Plus-Hybrid)
"Plus-Hybrid" integrates knowledge and experience from current activities and complement them by adopting a holistic approach, considering the intelligent interconnection of components as well as managing the planned efforts and human resources in time. The goal of this project was to develop affordable building equipment and services for future "Energy Plus houses".

BIGMODERN - Sustainable refurbishment standards of federal buildings constructed between 1950 and 1980
The project aims at developing sustainability and climate protection criteria for the refurbishment of federal buildings of the postwar period. These criteria will be tested for their practical suitability within the framework of demonstration projects. Subsequently, these criteria will be defined as fundamental guiding principles in the planning and building processes for all future BIG retrofit projects.
