The sustainable hospital. Dissemination.

Following two successful "Fabrik der Zukunft" projects on the theme of sustainable hospitals ("Feasibility study" 2004-2005 and "Testing in a pilot hospital" 2006-2008) the results and key findings were disseminated by a diversified dissemination strategy. The project was based on an intensive and successful more than four-year cross-disciplinary cooperation involving the pilot hospital (SMZ Otto Wagner Spital), the Viennese Hospital Association, the Immanuel Diakonie Group (Berlin) and an interdisciplinary team of researchers.

Virtual power plants and DSM

For the cost efficient and lasting energy supply from ecological sources, wind, photovoltaic and biomass have to be integrated in existing grids. New methods for DSM and virtual power stations are investigated, to improve the control behaviour.

Characterisation of material parameters as basis for innovative processing methods and products made of large dimensioned wood aiming at economically sustainable use of Austrian timber resources "XXL-Wood"

Facing the problem of decreasing demand for large dimensioned timber, investigations are carried out concerning certain properties like strength and fibre characteristics. An integrated technical energy plus office concept without additional building costs demonstrates the feasibility of such projects instancing a concrete office project with 50.000 m² floor area in Vienna with economical cost consideration.

Wood Plastic Composites - New property profile by refiner fibres

The mechanical properties and thus the application area of wood plastic composites with a wood content > 60 % shall be explicit increased by means of long wood fibres. The realization of a technological direct feeding system in extrusion process will enable an innovation jump of this wood like material.
