Development of high quality ecological solutions for thermal insulation systems on the basis of reed
Exterior and interior insulation systems containing reed as insulation material were developed. The solutions integrate insulation material, fastening and plaster (as well as optional heating for the interior insulation). A concept for the renovation of an old building using a reed insulation system was developed.

The research study was targeting the identification of strategic research potentials in the field of biomimetics for innovative facade technologies of the future. BIGMODERN - Sustainable refurbishment standards of federal buildings constructed between 1950 and 1980
The project aims at developing sustainability and climate protection criteria for the refurbishment of federal buildings of the postwar period. These criteria will be tested for their practical suitability within the framework of demonstration projects. Subsequently, these criteria will be defined as fundamental guiding principles in the planning and building processes for all future BIG retrofit projects.

In diesem Projekt wurden innovative Gebäudestandards hinsichtlich ihrer betriebswirtschaftlichen Aspekte über den Gebäudelebenszyklus untersucht. Anhand von Lebenszykluskostenberechnungen für 40-50 großvolumige Niedrigstenergie- und Passivwohnhäuser basierend auf IST-Daten aus dem laufenden Betrieb wurden erstmals belastbare Grundlagen erarbeitet, die die weitere Marktdurchdringung von innovativen Baustandards im Bereich großvolumiger Wohngebäude wesentlich unterstützen sollen.
Syn[EN]ergy - Synergiepotenziale zwischen Stadtplanungszielen und Photovoltaiknutzung auf Freiflächen
Freiflächen wie Großparkplätze, Brachen oder manche Kategorien von Erholungsflächen bieten ein bislang wenig genutztes Potenzial für Photovoltaik-Anwendungen im urbanen Raum. Im Rahmen von Syn[En]ergy wurden Synergien und Konfliktpotenziale der PV gegenüber anderen Nutzungen untersucht, planerische Lösungsvorschläge für konkrete Freiflächen unter Berücksichtigung ökonomischer, stadtplanerischer, gestalterischer, rechtlicher und sozialer Aspekte entwickelt und die Ergebnisse gemeinsam mit Stakeholdern aus Wirtschaft, Verwaltung und Gesellschaft bewertet.

Mittels Community Organizing als Prozess wird aktivierende Öffentlichkeitsarbeit im Stadtteil konzeptioniert und durchgeführt. BewohnerInnen im Neubau- und Sanierungsbereich werden in der Vorbereitung, der Bauphase verstärkt informiert und einbezogen. Feedback zu PlanerInnen und Bauträgern, sowie wissenschaftliche Aufarbeitung der Erkenntnisse und Erfahrungen aus diesem Prozess sind ebenfalls Teil des Projekts.
