City Dialog - Evaluation of future research topics for the "city of the future" through stakeholder dialog.
The integration of key stakeholder views allowed an extensive evaluation and prioritisation of research topics for the "city of the future". The discussion had been organised in workshops with stakeholder groups (public administration, science & research, residents).
PRoBateS - Potentials of planning and building legislation for energetically sustainable city structures
The aims of this project are to analyse planning and building legislation in order to identify barriers, potentials and suitable courses of action for energy-orientated policy measures. Specific policy recommendations are developed with a view to increasing the sustainability of energy-related city structures. For these purposes the project combines two different disciplinary approaches: a thorough legal analysis and a spatial structure and quantitative impact assessment.
FM.Comfort/FM.Ware - Software for optimizing the use of energie and other resources in the virtual house
The expert system FM.Comfort/FM.Ware realizes the so called virtual house (vh). The virtual house is the computer model of a real building. This computer model supports the optimization of the use of energy and other resources by analysis of the life and work habits of the residents and the positive influence on inhabitants-behaviours (user motivation).

Die derzeit in Österreich immer noch kontrovers diskutierte Frage der Sinnhaftigkeit von Luftheizung für Passivhäuser soll mit Hilfe einer systematischen Recherche und wissenschaftlichen Untersuchung geklärt werden. Die Ergebnisse liefern wertvolle Erkenntnisse für Bauträger, PlanerInnen und Förderentscheidungen.
Optimisation of ecological construction components for industrial serial production of precast elements
The project focused on passive house elements from straw and clay. Special interest was paid at a novel straw insulation as well as at an efficient drying process of the clay. Sustainability of the building materials was a very important aspect within the project.

AR-HES-B – Abwasserreinigung zur hybriden Energiespeicherung, Energiebereitstellung und Wertstoffgewinnung
AR-HES-B verfolgt das übergeordnete Ziel, technologische Änderungen der kommunalen Abwasserreinigung zu entwickeln, um die Abwasserreinigung vom Energieverbraucher hin zum hybriden Energieerzeuger und Energiespeicher und als Wertstoffbereitsteller zu erreichen. Durch das AR-HES-B Konzept positioniert sich die städtische Abwasseraufbereitung als eine wichtige Drehscheibe im überregionalen Energie- und Stoffaustausch.

Das Projekt hatte zum Ziel, Auswirkungen des NutzerInnenverhaltens auf die energetische Performance von Dienstleistungsgebäuden in Niedrigst- und Plusenergiebauweise besser zu verstehen und zu modellieren. Die erarbeiteten Vorschläge unterstützen Facility-ManagerInnen von Dienstleistungsgebäuden in ihrer Arbeit und berücksichtigen Gender- und Diversitätsfragen.

EDEN - Developement of a structured data and preparation documentation with a minimized error-proneness for energy performance cerificates.
Current energy performance certificates hold major flaws. Therefore, the presented research initiative aimed at the development of a standardized and easy-to-use, generic Input-Data-Documentation, which ensures the quality of energy certificates for all involved stakeholders. During the development, the documentation had been conducted and for a chosen sample of representative buildings, which is expected to demonstrate the high potential of such a development.
Produkt- und Systementwicklung zur thermischen Sanierung von Altbauten durch den Einsatz von magnesitgebundenen Holzwolleleichtbauplatten
Ziel dieses Projektes ist die Überprüfung der Wirksamkeit der magnesitgebundenen Holzwolleleichtbauplatte zur Innendämmung bei der Altbausanierung bzw. das Aufzeigen von Ansatzpunkten für die Weiterentwicklung von Produkten in diesem Einsatzbereich. Dabei werden - parallel in theoretischen Rechenmodellen und in Feldversuchen - ein entsprechendes Klima im Innenraum erzeugend die Auswirk- ungen auf die Behaglichkeit und auf die bestehende Bausubstanz untersucht. Des- weiteren wird eine Beurteilung der Nachhaltigkeit durchgeführt.
Reduktion des Kühlenergiebedarfs durch optimierte Bebauungsstrukturen und Prozess- und Entwurfsoptimierung in der Gebäudeplanung (smartKB*)
Basierend auf der systematischen Zusammenstellung geeigneter Methoden wurden im Forschungsprojekt smartKB* Handlungsempfehlungen auf drei Maßnahmenebenen zur Senkung des Kühlbedarfs in neuen und zu sanierenden Gebäuden ausgearbeitet: Die Entwicklung bzw. Optimierung von geeigneten Bebauungsstrukturen, die Erarbeitung von Gebäudekonzepten für die Nutzung passiver Maßnahmen zur Kühlbedarfsreduktion sowie die Kühlenergiebedarfsreduktion durch integrale Planungsprozesse.

Komfortlüftung plus+: Erstmalige Entwicklung hocheffizienter raumweise bedarfsgesteuerter Komfortlüftungssysteme für Neubau und Sanierung
Entwicklung innovativer Komfortlüftungskomponenten für Neubau und Sanierung, die erstmals eine raumweise Bedarfssteuerung der Luftmengen ermöglichen. Daraus resultieren eine deutliche Verbesserung der Primärenergiebilanz sowie eine grundsätzliche und nachhaltige Lösung der Diskrepanz zwischen zufriedenstellender Raumluftfeuchte und sehr guter Luftqualität in der Heizperiode.
Manage_GeoCity - Entwicklung einer Methodik zur koordinierten Nutzung und Bewirtschaftung der oberflächennahen Erdwärme in urbanen Räumen
Anhand der Modellregion Graz wurde eine Methodik für die koordinierte Nutzung und Bewirtschaftung oberflächennaher Erdwärme für Wärme- und Kühlanwendungen sowie saisonaler Speicherung in urbanen Räumen entwickelt. Dabei wurden Grundwasserströmungen, unterschiedliche geologische Verhältnisse, Wärme- und Kühlbedarf, Wärmeeintrag von Solaranlagen und betrieblicher Abwärme und die Möglichkeiten der saisonalen Speicherung von Wärme im Untergrund berücksichtigt.
Climate protection in Schools: a prototype for targeted oriented knowledge transfer for students on the basis of energy efficient buildings
The saying "Was Hänschen nicht lernt, lernt Hans nimmermehr." which can be translated with the English saying "You can´t teach an old dog new tricks." especially applies to the issue of "climate protection" in general. Therefore children must be made aware of the importance of the subject from the beginning on in order to live their life efficiently and environmentally friendly. Based on a research and on an evaluation of existing teaching materials teachers and students will develop, how students understand the topic "climate protection" with a focus on "building and living in the future" the easiest way.

Am Beispiel von vier Fallstudien in Wien wurden die qualitätssteigernden Beiträge des Freiraums in Neubauprojekten, anwendungsorientierte Maßnahmen des freiraumbezogenen Qualitätsmanagements im Realisierungsprozess und innovative Lösungsstrategien über Referenzprojekte dargestellt.
Product and system development for an inside thermal insulation construction of historical houses using magnesite bonded wood wool panels
The objective of this project is to examine the ability of magnesite bonded wood wool panels as an inside thermal insulation system, especially for houses with historical facades and to acquire starting points for further development of the products and components being used. Parallel to the data which will be calculated in a theoretical FEM-model, a field trial will be carried out to prove the influence on the inside room climate. In addition the sustainability of the system will be analysed.

Systementwicklung einer fassadenintegrierten Bauteilaktivierung für „warme“ Sanierungen mit hohem Übertragungspotenzial auf Gebäude klassischer Wohnhausanlagen der 1950er und 1960er Jahre. Das System wird anhand dreier Bauvorhaben erprobt, weiterentwickelt und durch eine breite Anwendung (über 200 Wohnungen) demonstriert.
