Total Quality Design and Assessment of buildings as a strategy to increase the level of know-how with regard to the issue of "sustainable buildings".

Total Quality Design and Assessment is an instrument to increase the demand for high quality buildings; "high quality" in terms of improved comfort as well as decrease in negative environmental impact, at affordable costs. Application of TQ design targets requires additional and new knowledge, thus increasing the level of know-how with regard to the issue of "sustainable buildings".
ZSG - Sustainable Concepts in urban redevelopment and building refurbishment

Project on research and implementation for ecological and energy efficient concepts, urban redevelopment and building refurbishment. Performance of a routing project on a former ter-ritory of the Austrian armed forces in Steyr.
Experiences and attitudes of users as a basis for the development of sustainable housing concepts with high social acceptance

The aim of this project was to a) analyse current experiences of users of ecologically innovative residential buildings ("passive houses", solar houses, etc.) in Austria, b) to evaluate innovative housing concepts in focus groups, and c) to create a model for the continuous participation of users in the innovation process.
SchulRen+ Innovative plus-energy refurbishment concepts for school buildings
In a technical feasibility study and based on a real example, the project analysed innovative plus-energy refurbishment concepts for school buildings. The goal was to develop refurbishment concepts with a high replication potential which combine future-oriented energy concepts with feasible technical and architectural solutions.
aspern Vienna´s Urban Lakeside subproject 2: Inter-building energy distribution
Development of comprehensive concepts for local distribution systems for thermal and electric energy within a residential area including the consideration of the interaction with construction and city planning. Derivation of measures for demonstration buildings and the infrastructure of the residential area. Integration of computing models to a prototype simulating energy distribution in the residential area.
Contracting as a instrument for renovation

Development of contracting models for comprehensive renovation service packages.
"Communal living for elderly - ecological, social and economical aspects" - eco-com.60+
The research project examined different forms of communal living of elderly people and contributes to the development of new, common forms of living for the elderly. Questions concerning demographic change and economic as well as ecologic challenges of our time had been dealt with.
Life Cycle Cost Forecasting Model - Real Estate-Database analysis for life-cycle based investment decisions
Estimation of operational costs of buildings based on a "cause/effect model" between technical building characteristics, investment and running costs to support the decision making process in early planning stages regarding energy efficient buildings.
Industrially produced residential dwellings

Potential of future development for industrially produced residential dwellings Enquiry on international tendencies in automated manufacturing and assessment of viable strategies for their implementation into the Austrian building sector
Hygrothermal behaviour of double-skin facades in solar irradiation - theory evaluation by means of on-location measurements

Detailed clarification of the base parameters of thermodynamic simulation calculations by means of on-location measurements on the five-storey double-skin facade of the Federal Institute of Social Education in Baden bei Wien
Technical status of ventilation systems for buildings

Evaluation of existing ventilation systems in Austria considering technical quality and practicability.
ProKlim - Optimisation of Energy Efficiency of automated indoor climate systems by using weather forecasts
Investigation of the basic energy savings potential for buildings in commercial use by including weather forecasts as a variable. Additionally, a concept for integrating weather forecasts into the heating and air conditioning control systems in buildings is planned to be developed. Within the scope of the feasibility study, a detailed analysis of technological possibilities, including both hardware and software, will be conducted.
User-friendly heating and ventilation systems for low energy and passivehouses

The goal of the research project is the evaluation of different heating and ventilation systems for passive- and low energy multi family and office buildings taking into account indoor climate, possible variation of user behaviour, final and primary energy demand, costs, space demand and fail save installation and operation.
Innovative Refurbishment of Single Family Houses

Evaluation of best-practice models and recommendations to support dissemination
Stroh-Cert: certification, logistic and quality management for straw bale buildings
Certification of straw bales as insulating material, development of a straw bale logistic concept and a quality management system as strategic measures with the aim of the dissemination of straw bales as insulating material
Living and Working in the Moosburg, the "community of education"
The design aims not only at creating comfortable living spaces and practical work environments, but at connecting these realms, thus providing a holistically attractive “living space”. A pilot project will be built on an appropriate site in the very core of Moosburg, neighbouring both the village square and the educational campus.
smartEXT - extended application boundaries for proven passive house technology
The present study aims to explore the application options for compact units (ventilation devices including micro heat pumps, developed for passive houses) in low energy buildings. Compact ventilation units for heat recovery, heating and domestic hot water shall bear the basic heating load, whereas peak loads shall be covered by newly-developed auxiliary heating equipment combined with intelligent control algorithms. This allows increased energy efficiency as well as cost effectiveness together with higher living quality and lower ecological load.
Existing building reconstruction and implementation of passive house components

Implementation of passive house components, systems and techniques into the practice of existing building reconstruction, in order to reduce the energy consumption as much as possible and to increase the living quality substantially. Craftspeople and planners, who are specialized in building renovation, should gain access to passive house know-how.
ABC - DisposaL - Assessment of Building and Construction - Disposal LCA Indicators for the disposal performance of construction
A framework of assessment for the disposal of building materials, constructions and buildings will be developed. The results will be included in the OI3-indicator and in the building assessment tool Total Quality Building. Demonstration projects of the programme Building of Tomorrow will be assessed with the new method.
Subjective housing quality as social acceptance test of sustainability

Post occupancy evaluation with residents of four low energy building projects and four conventional residential buildings in the city of Salzburg. (A co-operative project with the Workers Chamber of Salzburg and provincial research into residential building).
