Manage_GeoCity - Development of a method for the coordinated management of geothermal energy in urban areas
Based on the urban region Graz a method had been developed for the coordinated use and management of shallow geothermal energy for heating and cooling as well as seasonal heat storage in urban regions. Ground water flow, different geologic conditions, heating and cooling demand, heat input from solar collectors and industrial waste heat and the possibilities of seasonal heat storage in the subsurface were considered.

Die energetische Sanierung des Gebäudebestandes erfordert Lösungen auf Ebene der Nutzungseinheit. Innendämmung ist eine dafür geeignete Technologie. Die Herausforderung war es, die vielfältigen Ansprüche und Anforderungen optimalen Lösungen zuzuführen. Hierzu war es erforderlich die einzelnen Systeme und Maßnahmen einer Sanierung aufeinander abzustimmen. Dadurch konnten nicht nur Dauerhaftigkeit und Qualität sichergestellt, sondern auch eine erhöhte Nutzerakzeptanz sowie eine Steigerung der Marktdurchdringung und der Sanierungsrate erreicht werden.

The project worked out the development of a smart grids reference architecture for Austria under involvement of all actors. Model Predictive Control of Thermally Active Building Systems and Monitoring of two Test-Boxes
A robust, predictive controller which utilises weather forecast data to control thermally active building systems had been designed, researched and assessed in terms of energy efficiency and comfort compared to standard controllers, especially for cooling purposes. Simulations and real measurements using two "Test-Boxes" with thermally active building systems which are constructed and built for this purpose were used to analyse energy efficiency and comfort. Low complexity and transparency of methods and solutions should allow for transferability of all results to guarantee maximum usability for similar applications.
Urban wind energy - Development of methods for the assessment of small wind turbines in urban areas
The project "Urban wind energy" aims to create the basis for the assessment of roof-mounted small wind turbines (SWT) in urban areas. Therefore, methods for the characterisation of turbulent wind flow fields are developed and on the other hand the impacts of turbulent wind conditions with reference to selected turbulence indicators on the performance of small wind turbines are investigated. The overall aim of the project is to address the question how to evaluate sites in urban areas for the application of small wind turbines.

Kühlung) mittels Geothermie und Photovoltaik für großvolumige Gebäude im städtischen Bereich. Mit den Projekterkenntnissen wird es in Zukunft leichter sein, im urbanen Bereich die Nutzung erneuerbarer Energieträger ökologisch und ökonomisch sinnvoll zu planen.
ABC - DisposaL - Assessment of Building and Construction - Disposal LCA Indicators for the disposal performance of construction
A framework of assessment for the disposal of building materials, constructions and buildings will be developed. The results will be included in the OI3-indicator and in the building assessment tool Total Quality Building. Demonstration projects of the programme Building of Tomorrow will be assessed with the new method.
