Science documentary "Building of Tomorrow" for television

The documentary film for ORF/ 3sat and Bayern alpha-TV presents the concept of the passive house. Fascinating pioneer projects of the Austrian Program on Technologies for Sustainable Development, Sub-Program "Building of Tomorrow", have been filmed over several months. The importance of taking care of ecology and sustainability when constructing houses is demonstrated to a large audience.
IEA SHC Task 42/ECES Annex 29: Compact Thermal Energy Storage - Material Development for System Integration
The key accomplishments of the task are summarized in the following points: New material characterizing methods were investigated, a new standard for an improved DSC measurement method has been developed, a data base for PCM, TCM and sorption materials was developed and established, advances in the numerical modelling of materials, compact thermal storage systems were developed for different material applications, a tool for the economic evaluation of thermal energy storages has been developed. Also numerous joint R&D Projects and more than twenty publications arose from the IEA-SHC Task 42 networking activity.
IEA DSM Task 17 - Extension: Integration of Demand Side Management, Distributed Generation, Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storages (working period 2013 - 2016)
The aim was to exchange experiences and developments in the field of integrating renewables with the help of DSM in residential and commercial buildings. Technologies like PV systems, electric vehicles, electric storages, heat pumps, micro-CHP in combination with energy management systems (via gateways), and implementing dynamic tariffs using smart meters offer huge potential to increase energy efficiency. Phase 3 of this Task addressed the current role and potential of flexible buildings and their related implied changes and impacts on the grid and markets. The scalability and applicability of successful projects with respect to specific regional differences and requirements was also explored.
IEA DSM Task 24: Behaviour Change in DSM – Helping the Behaviour Changers (Working period 2015-2017)
More than 20% of the use of energy for small consumers can be saved by changed behaviours. Past efforts to tap these potentials through DSM-interventions are not effective. The Task 24 dealt with the most important actors groups as well as tools, which support the behaviour changers in their daily work. In addition, an assessment method for DSM-interventions in the frame of the Austrian law on energy efficiency was elaborated.
IEA-ISGAN Annex 2: Smart Grid Case Studies (Working period 2019 - 2023)
The main objective of this working group of the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) is to provide all relevant stakeholders with access to detailed information on the current status of smart grid pilot and demonstration projects.

ArcheNEO - an energy-autonomous office park in Kitzbühel
ArcheNEO is a highly energy efficient office park, that produces more energy than it needs. It features an integrated energy concept that saves energy, uses renewable energies in combination with electric mobility and batteries as electricity storage and manages energy and was planned and built in Kitzbühel Oberndorf. The demonstration object will be multiplied and exported.
Safety and Authorization of Biomass Gasification Plants
Biomass gasification is a success promising technology for the combined heat and power production based on the utilization of domestic biomass. With this project a safety and commissioning guideline for the technology was created for the enhancement of the technology's market introduction.
Economic usage of Photovoltaic electricity in buildings
The aim of this project is to optimise the direct usage of PV-electricity produced in buildings. The main question concerning the right dimensioning of the PV generator should be answered in order to achieve a high direct usage rate of produced PV electricity under economic considerations. This analysis will be carried out for various building categories. As result, a calculation method will be developed (incl. report), in order to achieve the optimal, most economic PV system for various building categories and user typologies.
Renewable Biopolymers as Substitution for Bulk Plastics
Biopolymers consist of renewable resources. The concept deals with the development and implementation of technologies in the sector of renewable biodegradable materials.
