IEA HPT Annex 48: Industrial Heat Pumps, Second Phase

IEA EBC Annex 73: Towards Net Zero Energy Resilient Public Communities

Public buildings such as hospitals and educational institutions often house critical infrastructure that depends on sufficient energy and resource supply. The aim of the annex was to develop tools for the planning process of resilient, efficient and low-emission energy systems for such building clusters.

IEA EBC Working Group on Cities and Communities (WGCC)

The WGCC enables information and experience exchange, the identification of bottlenecks that lead to specific research questions and a direct communication with cities on their needs, to enable them to transform their energy systems. As part of the "Annex 63" project, Austria has worked with 10 other countries to develop guidelines for the successful implementation of energy strategies at local level. The results include support for nine strategic measures, descriptions of case studies, support materials and recommendations for different target groups.

IEA HPT Annex 57: Showing flexibility benefits through heat pump implementation in multi-vector energy systems and thermal networks

This project analyzes the future implementation of heat pumps in multi-vector energy systems and thermal networks. The aim is to increase the flexibility of the energy system and to use it for various applications, e.g. for system services or to participate in different electricity markets. Using international case studies, influencing factors and potentials for flexibility options will be evaluated and suitable business models will be derived.

IEA HPT Annex 64: Safety measures for flammable refrigerants

New bans on chemicals and the revision of the so-called F-Gas Regulation pose new challenges for the heat pump and refrigeration industry. In this project, new knowledge regarding the safe future use of flammable refrigerants in heat pump and refrigeration systems up to 50 kW for room temperature control and hot water preparation is being developed and made available to the relevant target groups.

IEA HPT Annex 59: Heat Pumps for Drying Processes

Drying processes are highly energy-intensive and widespread in industry and commerce as well as in households in various forms. In this project, the potential for energy savings in drying processes in various applications will be investigated, which can be tapped through the use of heat pumps and made available to the relevant target groups in the form of guidelines, data, etc.

IEA Hydrogen Task 45: Renewable Hydrogen Production

Due to the increasing pressure to replace fossil fuels with alternatives, the demand for renewable hydrogen supplies is also increasing. In this project, the state of the art of various established and innovative production paths will be collected, processed and then made available to the public.

Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to the Energy Supply 2005

The solar thermal collector capacity in operation worldwide equaled 107.8 GWth corresponding to 154 million square meters at the end of the year 2005. Of this, 90.7 GWth were accounted for by flat-plate and evacuated tube collectors and 16.2 GWth for unglazed plastic collectors. Air collector capacity was installed to an extent of 0.9 GWth. Decarbonization of Cities and Communities (Cities TCP)

The Cities TCP is a joint international effort that aims to accelerate the decarbonization in cities by providing a communication platform for relevant expertise of all IEA bodies to the local scale including cities, financing institutions, utilities, service providers and building constructors. Vice-versa, the platform generates evidence-based research questions of cities needs for IEA TCPs.

IEA EBC Annex 56 – Cost Effective Energy and Carbon Emission Optimization in Building Renovation

The objective of the IEA EBC Annex 56 project was to develop a methodology for cost effective energy and carbon emissions optimization in building renovation. Within the frame of the project this methodology was developed and furthermore also innovative renovation projects were collected and analyzed, which should perform as best practice examples.

IEA EBC Annex 66: Definition and Simulation of Occupant Behavior in Buildings

Given the considerable implications of occupants' presence and behavior for buildings’ performance, IEA EBC Annex 66 aims to set up a standard occupant behavior definition platform, establish a quantitative simulation methodology to model occupant behavior in buildings, and understand the influence of occupant behavior on building energy use and the indoor environment.
