Basierend auf einer klaren Definition der Themenbereiche und fokussierend auf energierelevante Aspekte schaffte das Projekt einen Überblick über derzeitige Forschungsschwerpunkte zum Thema Smart Cities, definierte und evaluierte zukünftige Forschungsthemen und erarbeitete Handlungsempfehlungen für die Politik.

Der Stadt der Zukunft-Workshop am 20. Jänner 2017 richtet sich an potentielle Nachfrager von umfassenden Technologie-Serviceangeboten, mit denen sie BürgerInnen, BewohnerInnen etc. eine Lösung für die gemeinsame Nutzung von PV-Strom anbieten können.

Aktuelle Projektergebnisse des Programms „Stadt der Zukunft“ wurden bei der Smart Energy Systems Week vorgestellt. Zur Intensivierung des Wissensaustauschs wurden nationale und europäische Netzwerkaktivitäten präsentiert.

Zwischen Forschungseinrichtungen und der Wirtschaft wurden die Grundsteine für gemeinsame F&E-Projekte gelegt; gemeinsame Forschungs-Aktivitäten wurden initiiert bzw. verstärkt, um diverse heimische Betriebe als wesentliche globale Innovationsmotoren in ausgewählten Nischenbereichen dauerhaft am internationalen PV Markt positionieren zu können.
Recommendations for a consolidated Austrian research in the topic of "Smart Cities"
Based on a clear definition of the topics and focusing on energy relevant aspects the project will provide an overview on the present points of focus in research on "Smart Cities". Furthermore, future research topics will be defined and evaluated, and action plans for political stakeholders will be elaborated in the framework of two expert workshops.

Rapidly increasing energy consumption and decreasing resources of fossil fuels lead to dramatical economical, ecological and social problems.This study identified the feasible long term potential of renewable energy sources. Then ways were developed how to supply the demand for future energy consumption with renewable energy sources, despite increasing energy services.

Agriculture will become an important supplier of sustainable energy services for society. However, this sector can only fulfil this role if it operates on the base of sustainable energy provision itself. The project will determine the necessary measures to achieve this state for a concrete regional setting (eastern Styria) by the year 2020.
Renewable energy in Austria: Modelling possible development trends until 2020
The project investigates possible economic, social and environmental effects of a sustainable energy policy. Within a participatory modelling process a sustainability model is used to simulate different energy scenarios (with a focus on renewable energy technologies) for Austria until 2020.
