International eco-label for sustainable building products

Standardisation of testing criteria of acknowledged eco-labels in co-operation with the specialised trade for building products.
Catalogue of Passivhouse Details for Refurbishments
A Catalogue of Passivhouse Details for Refurbishments for buildings of all building periods from the 1870 to the 1980s. Special consideration to the refurbishment of building parts in contact with the earth. Integration of controlled ventilation services. Construction elements description with drawings, building physical data and ecological life cycle assessment. This project aimed at contributing to "Replicable refurbishment concepts for meeting passive house (or comparable) standard in buildings of all building periods".
Innovative moth-protection system for sheepwool insulation

This project developed a novel "bio-pesticide"-formula by screening plant extracts and minerals for their strong repellant activity in order to protect sheepwool insulation from cloth moth infestation. It was investigated and examined by state-of-the-art-technology that the anti-moth-mixture extracted from plants and minerals, acts as a valid alternative to existing pest control agents.
WHISCERS. Whole House In-Situ Carbon & Emission Reduction Solution
Whiscers is a system for installing internal wall insulation with minimal mess, whilst the resident remains in the property. It involves measuring the walls in the property using a laser device that enables fast and highly accurate measurement. Information is then sent electronically to a computer controlled off-site cutting machine that is rapid, precise and mess-free.
Can sustainable building be realized at reasonable costs?
At the development "residential Passive House Utendorfgasse" were reached very low building costs. Would there be different building costs by using ecological materials and technologies? There will be calculated additional and reduced costs by using the ecological building-catalogue and internal characteristic values of projects that are similar in design.
Formation of an Austrian EPD-Platform for building products
The objective of the project at hand was to create the general program guidelines for the "Austrian EPD-platform for building products": basic guidelines, general guidelines for LCA, general guideline for determination of emissions to indoor air and environment during operation phase.
Development of a clay - buildingboard with a surface ready to paint

Development of a building board consisting of a wood fibre board, coated with clay-plaster reinforced by natural plant-fibres (BioFaserLehm) for reinforcing planking of timber-constructions and also for statical not stressed inner wall surfaces.
Research work on outside sprayed-on cellulose insulation covered with plastering

This research work was done to expand knowledge about outside sprayed-on cellulose insulation application focusing on mechanical and physical properties respectively.
Stroh-Cert: certification, logistic and quality management for straw bale buildings
Certification of straw bales as insulating material, development of a straw bale logistic concept and a quality management system as strategic measures with the aim of the dissemination of straw bales as insulating material
Pallets never pall - Development of the Pallet House to series-production readiness
The winning project "Pallet House" of the EU-wide competition GAU:DI in 2007 consists of 800 (used) pallets. It has been exhibited in a scale 1:1 at the Biennale in Venice 2008 and has been developed for mass production within this project. Therefore, two exemplary scenarios were developed: (temporary) construction at Vienna's Urban Lakeside in Aspern and the construction of a low-cost building in South Africa.
baubookPlus - Expansion of an extensive knowledge database of sustainable buildings
By the foundation of the baubook GmbH in 2008 the two databases of building products "öbox" and "ixbau.at" have been merged. The new database baubook was expanded. Essential functions (central product declaration, decentral quality management) and fields of products were added.
LifeCycle Tower - Energy efficient prefabricated multi-storey timber houses
Based on the results of previous research projects, the project at hand deals with the development of a wooden prefabricated module construction for energy efficient office buildings with up to 20 storeys. This sustainable system ensures cost certainty through the whole life cycle of the building.
Sprayed-on and Plaster-covered Cellulose-insulation without vapour barrier

Investigations on the fundamental suitability of sprayed-on and plaster-covered cellulose insulation for thermal insulation of buildings.
Beacon of innovation gugler cross media, ecoeffective zero energy cross media enterprise featuring zero-emission, zero energy, zero waste
The aim of the flagship project is a new dimension of sustainability (cradle to cradle, ecoeffective zero energy enterprise) for business operation and building, which means zero emission, zero energy, zero waste. This will be shown on the basis of a beacon of innovation: Gugler GmbH, a modern sustainable media services enterprise (traditional print and new media) will extend their current building from about 2100 square meters and about 90 employees to about 5,000 square meters.
Investigations on the Fundamental Suitability of Sprayed-on and Plaster-covered hygrothermic active Cellulose-Compact-Soundabsorber

Development of a new kind of spray-on and plastered noise absorber on the basis of cellulose from recycled paper. The absorber system preferably attenuates the low-frequency range, that can usually only be controlled with rather complex systems, and can also be used where conventional absorbers could cause problems due to impermissible water vapour condensation.
CellPor - cellulose polymerized - new methods for the processing of a polymer-cellulose-foam according to ecological criteria in construction
The development of a spray applicable cellulose composite as insulating material on the basis of renewable resources, combined by the development of a prototype for the spray-on technology for processing the new, water free cellulose composite are the demanding challenges of this project.
Product and system development for an inside thermal insulation construction of historical houses using magnesite bonded wood wool panels

The objective of this project is to examine the ability of magnesite bonded wood wool panels as an inside thermal insulation system, especially for houses with historical facades and to acquire starting points for further development of the products and components being used. Parallel to the data which will be calculated in a theoretical FEM-model, a field trial will be carried out to prove the influence on the inside room climate. In addition the sustainability of the system will be analysed.
Basic research on fixing elements: drawing up universal design guidelines for high resilience mechanical jointing techniques for insulation products

The objective of this project is to explore mechanical insulant-fixing connections. Unconventional but concrete fixing techniques are the focus of the investigation. The use of insulants as "lost" casing will also be studied in depth.
Information point for renewable and ecological materials (II) internet platform, information and service offer and transfer event "Building of Tomorrow"

Establishment of www.nawaro.comas the central platform for building materials made of renewable resources will be realised with the help of the enlargement of the internet database and extensive service and information offer consisting of stake holder support, events, PR and transfer for "House of Tomorrow.
Demonstration building of the eco²building system: First passive house prefabricated wood building system for commercial and industrial buildings
The EU funded "eco2building" construction system in a timber-frame based modular design represents a systematic approach for energy efficient commercial and industrial buildings. The object of the eco²building demonstration project - the logistics centre in passive-house quality for "Eine Welt Handel AG" - in Niklasdorf was to optimize the planning and construction processes and prepare for the market launch of the eco²building construction system. Accompanying research monitored and disseminated the experience.
