Based on numerous preliminary works, model solutions (“Realtests”) for the innovation fields of sector coupling, energy communities and sustainable heating solutions were designed, the organisational structure of the living lab is developed and stakeholders were actively involved.
Certified passive attic conversion of a typical building from the period around 1900
Conversion of an attic of a typical building from the period about 1900 to a passive attic with photovoltaic system and renovation of the existing building equipment. The aim is to keep the additional construction costs under 10 %, to avoid overheating in summer and to make possible a reproduction for the large amount of buildings from the same period.
aspern Vienna´s Urban Lakeside - subproject 1: Public Space and Micro Climate: Basics for climate sensitive planning in Aspern
The Project will derive planning examples and recommendations in order to optimize the building performance as well as outdoor amenity. The study will be based on a climate prognosis of the aspern area and compare different reference examples of construction and open space design.
Build to satisfy: Modeling of user behavior in lowest and plus energy buildings: Consequences for building and comfort
Aim of the project was a better understanding and modeling of effects of user behavior on energy performance in office and service buildings, built with lowest energy building and plus-energy building techniques. The results support facility managers of office/service buildings and integrate gender and diversity issues.
Excursions "Building of Tomorrow live"
Under the project "Building of tomorrow live" over a year long several excursions to "Building of tomorrow" demonstration projects and other passive houses were organised. Sightseeing opportunities were surveyed, updated several times and published on the web.
Transferproject: Professional strawbale building - "Virtual building-site", exhibition and instruction material
Strawbale-workshops are considered as the best way to inseminate this ecological building-technique. The "virtual building site" has some decisive advantages over the common situation: it does not depend on the weather, allows the comparative study of different constructing methods and can, as a permanent installation, be used as an exhibition.
InnoGOK – Investigation of the energetic and ecological usability of solar radiation on urban spaces and paths
Examination of the suitability of street space or other paved or not paved surfaces in urban areas for promoting renewable heat from solar radiation. Thus offers a high potential for increasing energy efficiency and conserving resources in urban contexts. Besides, the dissipation of heat from large solar-heated surfaces promises to prevent urban heat islands.
PRoBateS - Potentials of planning and building legislation for energetically sustainable city structures
The aims of this project are to analyse planning and building legislation in order to identify barriers, potentials and suitable courses of action for energy-orientated policy measures. Specific policy recommendations are developed with a view to increasing the sustainability of energy-related city structures. For these purposes the project combines two different disciplinary approaches: a thorough legal analysis and a spatial structure and quantitative impact assessment.
Stakeholder process of the initiative "Reference architecture for secure Smart Grids in Austria"
The project worked out the development of a smart grids reference architecture for Austria under involvement of all actors. Based on technological-scientific elements a process which met the requirements of stakeholders like operators of infrastructure, industry and also public agencies had been worked out to achieve nationally accepted and internationally orientated reference architecture.
Pallets never pall - Development of the Pallet House to series-production readiness
The winning project "Pallet House" of the EU-wide competition GAU:DI in 2007 consists of 800 (used) pallets. It has been exhibited in a scale 1:1 at the Biennale in Venice 2008 and has been developed for mass production within this project. Therefore, two exemplary scenarios were developed: (temporary) construction at Vienna's Urban Lakeside in Aspern and the construction of a low-cost building in South Africa.
OptiMAS - Optimization of building energy efficiency through model-based energy flow analysis with non-invasive sensors
Using a model-based energy flow analysis supported by non-invasive sensor technologies OptiMAS investigated how to monitor, analyze and optimize existing buildings independent of the installed HVAC systems and automation components. With the OptiMAS approach the optimization potential of individual buildings up to entire areas can be detected, located and tapped by adjustment of system parameters to ensure highest energy and resource efficiency.
Photonic Cooling – Efficient cooling of buildings through the use of photonic
Within the scope of the project a photonic cooling approach was investigated and evaluated in terms of feasibility and cost efficiency for building applications. In particular cost-efficient photonic surfaces and concepts were investigated which need to have a high reflectivity in of the incident solar radiation (>97%) and a high emission coefficient within the spectral range of 8 – 13 micrometer in order to enable the emission of heat into the sky.
SYSPEQ - Systemische Lösung zum Betrieb von Plusenergiequartieren
Full-scale planning concepts for positive energy districts (PEDs) and their operation as energy communities (ECs). The focus is on the implementation in the existing building stock, especially in the area of social/non-profit housing. Financing options for renewable generation units, planning and operation of a PED (especially as an EC), marketing opportunities for surplus electricity and the development of an information and networking platform are part of this project. A special highlight is the practical proof-of-concept in Fuchsenloch, which is a social housing quarter of Sozialbau.
Energy-Sponge-Bruck (Energieschwamm Bruck an der Mur)
The aim of the exploration-study for the urban region Bruck/Oberaich "Energieschwamm Bruck" or "Energy-Sponge-Bruck" was to establish clear and stringent basics for a flexible development of the future energy system. Therefore an energy development concept as well as a cadaster for short-term implementation measures had been applied. The structured, Bruck-based approach acts as framework for a general energy-conception-method, valid for small and medium urban regions with 10,000 to 20,000 inhabitants.
