IEA Energy Efficient End-use Equipment (4E)

IEA Energy Storage (ES)
The aim of the IEA Energy Storage (ES) Technology Programme is to enable integrated research, development, implementation and integration of energy storage technologies in order to optimise the energy efficiency of all types of energy systems and to promote the use of renewable energy sources instead of fossil fuels.
IEA AFC: Technology Collaboration Programme on Advanced Fuel Cells
In the AFC TCP, both technology-oriented R&D activities (polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cells, electrolysers) as well as analysis to implement fuel cells in commercial applications (stationary and mobile applications) are carried-out. System investigations and modelling complement the activities of this TCP.
IEA Demand Side Management Energy Efficiency (DSM TCP)
Demand Side Management (DSM) refers to the implementation of energy efficiency improvements and service management measures on the side of end users for optimising energy systems overall. This IEA-research programme pushes development of suitable technologies, applications and methods for end users and thus facilitates their preferential adoption in all political decisions on energy policy.
IEA Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (EBC TCP)
The Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme by the IEA enables collaborative research and development projects. Thematically, it focuses on integrating energy efficient and sustainable technologies in buildings and communities.
IEA Heat Pumping Technologies (HPT)
The IEA Heat Pump Technologies programme develops and disseminates objective and balanced information on heat pumps, refrigeration technologies and air conditioning with the aim of exploiting the environmentally relevant and energetic potential of these technologies. This programme includes joint research projects, workshops, conferences and an information service (IEA Heat Pump Centre).
IEA District Heating and Cooling (DHC TCP)
The TCP on District Heating and Cooling (DHC) was founded in 1983. It deals with the design, performance and operation of DHC and Combined Heat and Power systems as powerful tools for energy conservation and the reduction of environmental impacts of supplying heat.
IEA - Advanced Motor Fuels Technology Collaboration Programme (AMF-TCP)
The AMF Technology Collaboration Programme’s (AMF-TCP) vision is that advanced motor fuels, applicable to all modes of transport, significantly contribute to a sustainable society around the globe. The Industrial Energy-Related Technology Programme (IETS) focuses on energy use in a broad range of industry sectors. It fosters international co-operation amongst relevant research strands, networking within and across industrial sectors, as well as exchange of information and knowledge between experts from industry, science and politics.
IEA 4E Product Energy Efficiency Trends (PEET) Project – 4 Reports

The Product Energy Efficiency Trends (PEET) project aims to monitor the energy efficiency of selected product groups in the 4E member countries and regions, to provide information on progress from year to year. The latest PEET reports published in 2022 summarize the state of energy efficiency regulations for four product groups. These are: electric motors, room air conditioners, televisions and monitors, and household refrigerators.

IEA HEV TCP Task 49: Electric Vehicle-Fire Safety
As the number of electric vehicles increases, so does the need for safety. The project is creating an overview of fire safety standards for electric vehicles and networking relevant stakeholders. Challenges are discussed and experiences exchanged in national and international expert workshops. The focus is on promoting the safety of electric vehicles and increasing their acceptance.

IEA ES Task 35: Flexible Sector Coupling through Energy Storage Implementation
Task 35 of the IEA Energy Storage TCP addressed Flexible Sector Coupling (FSC) through the implementation of energy storage and examined the role of energy storage in the context of the concept of sector coupling. The demand sectors include electricity, heating/cooling and mobility. FSC was defined, examples of FSC were described and studies on the use of FSC in local and the German national energy systems were carried out.
IEA Action Network "Intelligent Energy Systems": International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN TCP)
ISGAN is an international network for the development and exchange of expertise on smart, clean, flexible and resilient power grids ("smart grids"). ISGAN provides a platform for the communication of international experiences, trends and insights for the implementation of smart grid solutions in decarbonized energy systems of the future.
IEA EBC Working Group on Cities and Communities (WGCC)
The WGCC enables information and experience exchange, the identification of bottlenecks that lead to specific research questions and a direct communication with cities on their needs, to enable them to transform their energy systems. The working group is a joint initiative across several TCPs with in-depth participation of technical and non-technical (external) experts.
