IEA HPP Annex 33: Compact heat exchangers for heat pumping equipment
International cooperation aiming at widening the use of compact heat exchangers in heat pumping equipment. The goal of this project is to identify compact heat exchangers, either existing or under development, that may be applied in heat pumping equipment such as compression or absorption heat pumps.
Bio-R: Applications for treating Cellulosic bodies with supercritical carbon dioxide
The target of this project is the screening of the opportunities, resulting of the combination of treating Cellulosic bodies with supercritical carbon dioxide. In general, the change of the porous structure depending on the way of fiber drying and the opportunity to incorporate active compounds and the development of analytical methods to track them within Cellulosic bodies.
Ecoleasing for technical commodity goods - Models of use on the example of abrasives
The aim of the project is, to come to general expressions on one hand of the market potential and on the other hand of the restrictions for ecoleasing in the field of technical commodity goods. Within the project an evaluation on the relevance of ecoleasing for the sustainable development will also be done.
New potentials using hardwood with small diameters in forestry and timber industry
Identification of potentials to use hardwood with small diameters (SDH) in Austria with the help of the value added chain from the forest's location to the processor. Analysis and evaluation of availability, quality and market potential.

IEA SHC Task 37: Advanced Housing Renovation with Solar & Conservation
Development of advanced renovation concepts for residential buildings. For the housing segments with the greatest energy saving potentials strategies for increased market penetration of advanced housing renovation are investigated. Analysing outstanding renovation projects shall lead to technically and economically robust and sustainable concepts for housing renovation.
Investigation of Industrial Processes (IEA- Solar Heating and Cooling Program, Task 33)
The central aim of this international research cooperation is to make industrial processes accessible for solar thermal plants. To achieve this aim basic information is elaborated and components as well as system engineering concepts are developed. Furthermore the intention of Task 33/IV is to survey a detail state of the art in the field of solar process heat that has a validity for Europe. The work of JOANNEUM RESEARCH - Institute of Sustainable Techniques and Systems focuses mainly on the contents of Subtask B.
RETRAIN - Training Network Renewable and Energy Efficiency Technologies in Buildings
The project aim on one hand is to evaluate and adapt current trainings in the field of biomass, solar thermal energy, photovoltaic, heat pumps and ventilation and on the other hand to define new potential trainings in case of further demand. This shall be a fundamental basis to prevent the threat of the absence of professionals and to increase the quality of already converted projects.
NATHPRO: Development of NATural fiber High performance pultrusion PROfiles (SUSPRISE Joint Call)
Development of strong, light, weather and heat resistant natural fiber profiles by combining the the advantages of a pultrusion technology with the advantages of natural fibers.
Buildings of highest energy-efficiency with integrated renewable energy development
For the future supply of energy services the combination of energy efficiency, energy storage and decentralized use of renewable energy in buildings offers itself. The project identified dynamic potentials of possible active and passive energy yields of construction units with use of renewable energy sources, pointed future solutions to energy-efficient and ecological design of building construction-units and united all results to a signpost: From today's passive house to the energy-plus-house of the future.
Apple & pear cascade: more value added in the Mostviertel region through bio-cascading
Creating a concept for the bio-cascading of apple and pear pomace in the Mostviertel region for an increased value added through innovative local products. Development of strategies for the implementation of a pilot plant.
thermocollect: realisation of a plus energy building by a solar active facade system
The project demonstrates the application of a solar active facade system in the course of the renovation of an existing building in order to achieve the plus-energy standard. Moreover, the effectiveness of the system will be demonstrated on new buildings and transparent components as well. The final outcome will be a manual for the application and implementation of the façade system focusing on the segment of specialists and skilled labour.
IEA Bioenergy Task 40: Deployment of Biobased Value-Chains (Working Period 2019 - 2021)
IEA Bioenergy Task 40 traditionally focused on international trade and supply chains of biomass for bioenergy. Starting in 2018, the systems view was broadened, also to better meet Austrian requirements. The supply chain focus was maintained, but with a broader premise: The establishment of bio-based value chains for a sustainable and fair bioeconomy.
ISGAN Introductory Webinar Sandbox 2.0 Knowledge Exchange
28. January 2021
Online, AT
Building on the successful ISGAN Knowledge Transfer Project (KTP) in 2019, involving more than 20 countries, and subsequent work on regulatory sandboxes, this webinar introduces the follow-up workshop series "Sandbox 2.0" to capture recent developments and to support countries in their development of such regulatory instruments, to enable upscaling and deployment of energy system innovation.
IEA EBC Annex 80 Advisory Board of Practitioners of Resilient Cooling: Advances of Cooling Technologies (part 1)
30. March 2022
Online, AT
Linking the academic realm with practical application is crucial for EBC Annex 80. The Operating Agent established a format for exchange between Annex 80 scientists and practitioners. This interactive meeting will provide insights into advances of cooling technologies (radiant cooling and personal environmental control systems) and give the chance to share experiences in an informal manner.
IEA UsersTCP Empowering all: Gender in policy and implementation for achieving transitions to sustainable energy (Working period 2022-2024)
Previous work in the Task suggests that countries with higher income levels pay little attention to inclusive energy (-technology) use and its implications. Therefore, this project focused on obtaining more data on the gender aspects of energy users through a survey, developing guidelines on inclusive technology development, and communicating the overall research results with interested stakeholders.
