Joining Cards - Investigation of de-constructable fastening and joining techniques for the development of mono-material interior systems made of cardboard
Strategic examination of cardboard products and paper-based materials for the development of de-constructible interior systems and the definition of building components and their interfaces. The result forms the basis for further research projects in the form of a comprehensive knowledge gain.
EnerPHit-green concept Modernisation of a historic building with application of an aerogel insulation plaster
This demonstration project shows the comprehensive modernization of a historic building within the constraints of a regional protection zone. By using the Aerogel high-performance insulating plaster, a comprehensive energy-efficient building refurbishment had been realized without changing the outer appearance of the façade.
Build4Climate - Demonstration building with a climate room concept at the Innovation Quarter Lavanttal in Carinthia
Near the Wörthersee in Carinthia a modern open-space research and office building with flexible use is being built on the site of Lakeside Science & Technology Park GmbH. The innovative building will be implemented as a frontrunner with a 'climate room' concept based on thermal component activation and extensive use of renewable energy sources.
Energy-Sponge: The Building as an Energy-Sponge - Electricity In - Heat Out
Innovative, dynamic control concepts had been developed which enable (air) heat pumps in combination with PV- or renewable grid electricity to use the building mass of a multi-familiy house as heat storage. User acceptance had been evaluated and possible business models had been developed.
ReTarget - Re-manufacturing and re-purposing of high-quality sputter materials
The project objective is to reduce the energy input in the production of sputtering targets by at least 20 % by direct re-manufacturing of used, precious metal targets. In addition, the utilization rate will be increased from an average of 20-30 % to 70-80 % through a direct re-purpose approach, as well as by optimizing the sputtering process. This will allow a significant reduction of the footprint of the sputtering process.
E.Vent – Efficient, cost-effective and low-maintenance central ventilation systems for multi-family housing – Design, operation and fire protection measures
Die Synopsis ist eine drei- bis vierzeilige Beschreibung des Projektinhalts alsErgänzung zum Titel und nähere Erläuterung des Projekts.
BONSEI! Optimal use of existing buildings – energy efficient implementation of renovation!
The project BONSEI! would like to support an energy efficient and socially acceptable densification of privately owned residential buildings in urban space and to develop a methodological basis for resource efficient urban areas. The results are used for the conception of an innovative service in order to provide a neutral consulting regarding private densification plans.
FiTNeS - Facade integrated modular Split-heat pump for new buildings and refurbishment
The goal of FitNeS was the development of modular split heat pumps with compact and silent façade-integrated outdoor units for heating and domestic hot water preparation (and optionally cooling in combination with PV). The outstanding features of the concept are a modular design with a high degree of prefabrication and representing a visually and architectonically attractive, economic and sustainable solution for both new constructions and renovations. One of the main development goals is the minimization of sound emissions by means of optimized flow control.
Mission
Until the mid 1970‘s energy supply policy was a side issue for the industrialized nations: all the energy services needed could be provided with the fossil sources of energy available in the market. The oil crisis in October 1973 was a turning-point in national and international energy policies – for the first time the extent of dependence on the oil-exporting countries was revealed, and the security of the supply of energy in future seemed to be in jeopardy.
SPIDER - Subtraction as a measure to Preserve and Insulate historic Developments by Electric Robots
The purpose of this exploration is to unlock the potential of autonomous, data-driven robots that achieve improvements of the thermal building performance through air entrapments in a continuous process.
Road-to-Road/ Verschränkung neuartiger Methoden zur effizienten „Road-to-Road“ Inwertsetzung von Altasphalt
The planned combination of experimental and model-based methods for assessing/describing the behavior of asphalt shall enable the goal-oriented optimization of the performance/durability of recycled asphalt, with the resulting positive effects (CO2 balance, transport distances, landfill volume) being quantified within the project.
RE-FORM earth - Earth Building for Building Sector Transformation
In order to promote the use of earth, the RE-FORM earth project is creating a planning basis for the construction of structures and buildings containing earth. In order to counter uncertainties regarding the health effects of earth building materials, a comprehensive program is being carried out to investigate radiation exposure and potential pollutants in earth. By erecting a temperature-controlled rammed earth wall in a test room with subsequent measurements, the aim is to determine the extent to which the material can contribute to healthy indoor air due to its moisture-regulating properties and help to balance out energy peaks.
EPIKUR – Energy efficiency potential of intelligent measures of urban densification
The present research proposal focused on the possibility, implications and consequences of "inwards urban expansion" through densification of the existing urban tissue. In this context, densification is not only approached through known and common aspects of building regulations and guidelines, but in view of what is actually possible to achieve.
ENUMIS - Energetic effects of urban manufacturing in the city
The project examines the challenges of urban manufacturing (UM) from the energy perspective and shows opportunities arising from the implementation of UM concepts for the future design of sustainable energy systems for cities.
POLLID
Pollen is a valuable natural resource for active agents, which is collected by bees in a natural way. To use the pollen a processing (sorting) is necessary. The project deals with the basics of the identification and separation of bee-collected pollen.
THECLA
Heat Harvest - Harvest of urban solar excess heat from buildings and surfaces to avoid summer overheating in cities
"Harvest" of solar urban excess heat from building surfaces, sidewalks, streets and squares to avoid urban heat islands by lying flat absorber pipes, which are then fed into geothermal probe storage tanks for later use as a source for heating buildings.
International Sustainable Energy Conference – ISEC 2022
5. – 7. April 2022
Congress Graz, Austria and Online
ISEC 2022 is a forum for research, business and energy policy. The conference focuses on Renewable Heating and Cooling in Integrated Urban and Industrial Energy Systems.
Plan4.Energy – methodological set for the planning support of positive energy districts
Plan4.Energy develops a set of methods to support the planning of positive energy districts. The data-based system integration will enable a user-friendly quantitative assessment of the possibilities for building a positive energy district. This will allow stakeholders without the relevant background knowledge to realistically assess different project variants.
MEIDLINGER "L"-Participatory and scalable climate change adaptations in existing buildings at the intersection of public and private space
The project pursued an integral and interdisciplinary approach to climate change adaptation in existing buildings at the interface between public and private space. A scalable and multipliable model for Vienna and other cities had been developed.
