BIGMODERN - Subproject 2: Demonstration project of an official building in Bruck
In the frame of this subproject being part of the flagship project BIGMODERN, a decision matrix as well as a handbook for planning, including feasibility analysis and a collection of information, serving as decision guidance for planning and implementation of sustainable building refurbishment, is being developed. In this way, the risk for planners and builders of the usage of new sustainable technologies shall be minimised.
GEMA – Assessment of the performance of energy-efficient demonstration buildings
In GEMA, the project team will study and analyse the energy consumption of at least 10 commercial and residential buildings in Austria, which include innovative technologies or concepts for minimising their energy requirements. The results will allow for the potential optimal performance in terms of energy, environmental and social indicators of buildings in future construction projects.
P2H-Pot - Potentials, economic feasibility and system solutions for Power-to-Heat
P2H-Pot has identified economically feasible potentials for Power-to-Heat (P2H) in urban regions. The suitability of different technical system configurations were investigated using thermodynamic simulation and considering experiences from Scandinavian cases. The assessment of short, medium and long term relevance and economic feasibility of P2H were accomplished by simulating model-based scenarios up to 2050 of the Austrian and German electricity and heat market. In cooperation with a district heating company three case studies have been carried out.

Mechanical ventilation system for windows for the renovation of old buildings
Analysis and implementation of alternative ventilation systems for windows, focusing on thermal renovation of old buildings. The investigated ventilation systems were presented to an expert group. The aim was to discuss ventilation technologies with the help of different aspects and to develop a SWOT analysis.
BIGMODERN - Subproject 10: Evaluation, Documentation and Ensuring Transferability
The subproject 10 is part of the flagship project BIGMODERN. It is based on the results of subproject SP 7 in which a monitoring concept has been developed. This concept is now implemented through monitoring of different aspects occurring during the first two years of operation of both BIGMODERN demonstration buildings.
aspern Vienna´s Urban Lakeside subproject 2: Inter-building energy distribution
Development of comprehensive concepts for local distribution systems for thermal and electric energy within a residential area including the consideration of the interaction with construction and city planning. Derivation of measures for demonstration buildings and the infrastructure of the residential area. Integration of computing models to a prototype simulating energy distribution in the residential area.
Exploring the viability of small scale anaerobic digesters in livestock farming (2015)

IEA Bioenergy Task 32: Biomass Combustion (Working Period 2022 - 2024)
Biomass combustion is an important technology for providing renewable energy worldwide. Almost half of the EU's energy consumption is used for heat, which, among other technologies, can be provided by biomass combustion in a climate-friendly manner. It is therefore a key technology for achieving national and international climate and energy goals. This project shall ensure the exchange of information on relevant topics in order to support the success of Austrian actors from industry and research.
