IEA EBC Annex 84: Demand Management of Buildings in Thermal Networks

The concept of demand-side management (DSM) in buildings to reduce peak loads in the grid is well established in the power sector. The same concept can be applied to shift thermal loads in buildings connected to thermal networks. This project addresses the topic of demand response in buildings, focusing on the collection of case studies, technologies and collaboration models.

IEA-SHC Task 65: Solar Cooling for the Sunbelt Regions

Without measures, cooling demand will triple by 2050. The aim of Task 65 is to adapt existing technologies to the boundary conditions of the sunbelt, to find suitable system concepts, to evaluate them and to disseminate the advantages. In addition to system adaptations, the Austrian focus is on life cycle cost-benefit analysis and the further development of existing assessment tools.

Webinar: Indicators to Assess Resilience of Cooling in Buildings

10. May 2022
Online, AT

Well-insulated and air-tight buildings are known to be vulnerable to overheating. An increase in the severity and duration of heatwaves is expected, resulting in more severe overheating risks, affecting on their turn the health and mortality of building users. To achieve more future-proof buildings, it is crucial to design buildings that are "resilient" to overheating in future climate conditions.

Design Guidelines - Solar Space Heating of Factory Buildings With Underfloor Heating Systems (Jaehnig/Weiss 2008)

The energy required for the space heating of factory buildings and warehouses can be a major percentageof the energy consumption of a company. While in some cases, waste heat from other processesin the company is available and is the most cost effective way to heat a factory building, aninteresting option is to use solar energy to cover the heat demand of an industrial building.
