Using the example "Gründerzeitgebäude" in Fernkorngasse 41, 1100 Vienna, technical challenges and issues related to phasing out gas and oil as well as adapting to climate change are investigated. A particular focus is placed on the use or resource-efficient and ecological building materials and highly efficient technologies. The results should be the basis for the use for further projects.

WISE - Extension of the safety concept for heat pumps with flammable refrigerants for gas boiler replacement
In the project "WISE", safety concepts are being developed for the event of a leak in which flammable refrigerant escapes from the refrigeration circuit. These concepts aim to ensure a higher level of safety for residential installations than is currently required by the safety standard.
TheSIS - Thermal renovation with internal insulation systems - investigation and development of moisture-proof solutions
Development of innovative solutions for the retrofit of the building envelope with internal insulation with a focus on the hygrothermal optimization of a moisture-adaptive vapor retarder in form of a paint coating. As a result, the moisture hazard related to the implementation of internal insulation systems is reduced and the energetic, comfort-related and economic advantages are made available.
Kooperativ Ternitz - New cooperative models for a climate resilient settlement revitalization
Kooperativ Ternitz is developing innovative cooperation models for settlement development as a contribution to a climate-neutral city. The exploratory project "Favorite Facade ReUse" has set itself the goal of renovating and thermally upgrading buildings with curtain facades with a maximum proportion of reuse and the greatest possible protection of the residents. The authenticity of the building is preserved, and CO2 emissions are minimized.

Smart Dag - smart and climate-neutral renovation of the Dag Hammarskjöld housing estate
For a smart and sustainable renovation of the Dag Hammarskjöld housing estate in the city of Klagenfurt, a residential area from the 1950/1960s, the existing housing stock (buildings, green and open space, social structure) will be analysed and assessed based on the "Quartier &Wir" guide. The results are the basis for the launch of an architectural competition. The residents of the area who still live on site and the housing development agency of the department of the provincial Carinthian Government are involved in the feasibility study. The aim is to transfer the results of the study to other renovation projects and thus contribute to achieving the city of Klagenfurt's climate goals.
OWA’s future - Otto Wagner Area: A trend-setting transformation from a medical institution into a NEB neighbourhood
Development of qualitative and quantitative planning objectives as well as an implementation strategy for the transformation of the Otto Wagner Area along the New European Bauhaus guidelines. The basis is formed by interdisciplinary expert forums, which provide important insights for the necessary transformation of existing areas and buildings in other cities as well.
LehB:KlimafitDemo2+1 - Living in existing buildings today: climate-friendly renovations in existing buildings within the framework of the common good housing law
The LehB:KlimafitDemo2+1 project examines innovative renovation solutions for the climate-fit modernization of non-profit residential buildings without placing a financial burden on tenants. By implementing a flexible modular system and involving the residents, economic, technical and social aspects of the renovation are optimized. The aim is to make an important contribution to achieving climate neutrality by 2040 through adapted measures and comprehensive monitoring.
ProzesSan - Development of processes to increase the decarbonisation and refurbishment rate in the housing sector
The project aims to assist owners of large property portfolios with the challenges of refurbishing their buildings. The first step is to identify the various obstacles and develop appropriate solutions. These will be tested in three workshop phases with the owners, and a workshop manual and guidelines will be developed.
FluccoSan - Circular energy flexibility for resilient, climate-neutral refurbishments
FluccoSan aims to develop innovative and cost-effective refurbishment solutions for the building sector that contribute to achieving the Austrian federal government's climate targets. The focus is on energy-efficient, minimally invasive and socially acceptable measures, so-called “dynamic renovations”. Path to the Future (WEG zur Zukunft) - The Path to Implementing a Climate-Resilient Future in Condominium Ownership
The research project "WEG zur Zukunft / Path to the Future" examines the low renovation rates of condominium owners' associations (WEGs) in Austria and the associated communicative, regulatory, organizational, and financial challenges. In collaboration with the affected stakeholders – primarily owners and property management companies – foundations for solutions are being developed through a co-creative process that can assist in the path toward implementation.
