Optimized & reliable operation of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in terms of maintenance and energy management, using predictive, data-based & self-learning error detection. Conceptual design and prototype implementation of an AI (Artificial Intelligence) tool for automated data analysis and recommendations for technical building operators.
Decarbonization of Cities and Communities (Cities TCP)
The Cities TCP is a joint international effort that aims to accelerate the decarbonization in cities by providing a communication platform for relevant expertise of all IEA bodies to the local scale including cities, financing institutions, utilities, service providers and building constructors. Vice-versa, the platform generates evidence-based research questions of cities needs for IEA TCPs.
IEA EBC Annex 56 – Cost Effective Energy and Carbon Emission Optimization in Building Renovation
The objective of the IEA EBC Annex 56 project was to develop a methodology for cost effective energy and carbon emissions optimization in building renovation. Within the frame of the project this methodology was developed and furthermore also innovative renovation projects were collected and analyzed, which should perform as best practice examples.
IEA EBC Annex 66: Definition and Simulation of Occupant Behavior in Buildings
Given the considerable implications of occupants' presence and behavior for buildings’ performance, IEA EBC Annex 66 aims to set up a standard occupant behavior definition platform, establish a quantitative simulation methodology to model occupant behavior in buildings, and understand the influence of occupant behavior on building energy use and the indoor environment.
IEA EBC Annex 72: Assessing life cycle related environmental impacts caused by buildings
The construction sector has great potential to reduce its energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts. The IEA EBC Annex 72 therefore focuses on the harmonization of methods for the assessment of construction-specific and operational environmental impacts (primary energy requirements, greenhouse gas emissions and other indicators) throughout the life cycle of buildings.
IEA EBC Annex 61 - Business and Technical Concepts for Deep Energy Retrofit of Public Buildings
Target of IEA EBC Annex 61 was the development of technical and economical concepts for Deep Energy Retrofit of public buildings. To force high-quality and energy efficient retrofit, besides the enhancement and dissemination of innovative, technical retrofit concepts, the focus was in the development of innovative business models (energy-contracting).
IEA EBC Annex 67: Energy Flexible Buildings (working period 2015 - 2019)
The project increased the knowledge on building Energy Flexibility and the regarding potential buildings can provide to energy grids. The critical aspects and possible solutions to utilize the Energy Flexibility that buildings can provide were identified and a report of the “Principles of Energy Flexible Buildings” will be published in 2019.
IEA HEV TCP Task 40: Critical Raw Materials for Electric Vehicles
The production of electric vehicles and batteries requires critical raw materials. In Task 40, demand and supply are compared, based on global scenarios of the development of electric vehicle fleets, battery technologies, primary and secondary raw material potentials and recycling technologies. Potential overall ecological and social impacts of raw material and battery production are assessed.
IEA HEV TCP Task 49: Electric Vehicle-Fire Safety
As the number of electric vehicles increases, so does the need for safety. The project is creating an overview of fire safety standards for electric vehicles and networking relevant stakeholders. Challenges are discussed and experiences exchanged in national and international expert workshops. The focus is on promoting the safety of electric vehicles and increasing their acceptance.
Market survey of energy storage technologies in Austria (MSSP2020)
Stationary battery storage devices for the maximisation of the private consumption in PV-systems, large heat storage for local and district heating systems, thermal activation of buildings and the area of innovative storage systems have been chosen for the first market survey within this project. The historical market diffusion of these technologies is surveyed empirically and documented up to 2020.
Earth movement: Clay - a climate- and resource-friendly building material
Manufacturing processes and transport of building materials are energy-intensive and cause high CO2emissions. In addition, many building materials pose a health and disposal problem due to their content of disruptive and harmful substances. Locally available clay can replace conventional materials if appropriately prepared and processed, and helps to save both manufacturing processes and transport routes.
Energy Flexible Buildings – Potential and Performance
26th September 2017, 10.00 a.m.
Kuppelsaal TU Wien, Karlsplatz, 1040 Vienna
The aim of this workshop was to bring together international experts and the Austrian building and demand response community for know-how exchange and discussion on the topic of energy-flexibility in buildings and its role for smart grids. The focus was on thermal and electricity based flexibility potential of buildings and practical experience with first implementations and demonstrations.
Immobilization of Lipases on Corn Cob Granulate - New Key Technology for Biodiesel Production
The main objective of the project is to improve the method for producing biodiesel by enzymatic catalysis. The target is to find a method to catalyze the production of fatty acid methyl esters by corn-cob-immobilized lipases which can be used in industrial scale.
Economic chances of biogas supply for gas fuel stations in regions, which are not connected to the natural gas grid.
Examination of the economy of biogas supply for gas fuel stations in regions, which are not connected to the natural gas grid. Development of an economically attractive, technologically and cost-optimized biogas utility system for gas stations without connection to the natural gas grid.
