Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to the Energy Supply 2005

The solar thermal collector capacity in operation worldwide equaled 107.8 GWth corresponding to 154 million square meters at the end of the year 2005. Of this, 90.7 GWth were accounted for by flat-plate and evacuated tube collectors and 16.2 GWth for unglazed plastic collectors. Air collector capacity was installed to an extent of 0.9 GWth. IEA EBC Annex 72: Assessing life cycle related environmental impacts caused by buildings

The construction sector has great potential to reduce its energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts. The IEA EBC Annex 72 therefore focuses on the harmonization of methods for the assessment of construction-specific and operational environmental impacts (primary energy requirements, greenhouse gas emissions and other indicators) throughout the life cycle of buildings.

Analysis of the high-quality wooden facade in extreme climates

The project "Alpine base Schiestlhaus on the Hochschwab, which was opened in 2005, represents a lighthouse project for the "House of the Future" programme as the 1st shelter in zero-energy house quality. After more than 15 years in operation, however, damages came to light. Within the framework of this project, analysis activities were carried out on the cause of damage as well as the development of new facade structures.

smart façade - energy potential of adaptive façade systems

A specially developed simulation model is employed to ascertain the energetic potential of adaptive façade systems. The dynamic behavior of the physical properties of the adaptive façade system reacts to both internal and external changing conditions. The goal was the development of an adaptive façade, which helps provide maximum comfort for the building occupants with minimum energy consumption.
