Identification of potentials to use hardwood with small diameters (SDH) in Austria with the help of the value added chain from the forest's location to the processor. Analysis and evaluation of availability, quality and market potential.
Sustainable quarter "Aspern"
The development concept for the new quarter in Vienna (a former airfield) demands a great deal of sustainability: overall energy strategy, sustainability criteria as financial incentives for applicants for building permits and construction of sustainable and energy efficient buildings.
Bregenz 2040 climate neutrality roadmap focussing on the electricity and heating transition, mobility and public acceptance
The central goal of the project is to create a consistent, comprehensive, and feasible roadmap to achieve climate neutrality in Bregenz by 2040.
Wastewater cycle. Cascadic recycling of wastewater and organic residue streams in buildings.
Basic research is being conducted for a sustainable cycle-oriented system for the building-integrated recycling of wastewater and food waste. This includes nutrient recovery for a sustainable circulation system (production of plant fertiliser and biochar), electricity production to meet the demand (up to 15 %) of plus-energy buildings, as well as water recovery for irrigation of the building's own or urban greenery and for summer cooling.
"gugler! build & print triple zero" - subproject 5: Ecoeffective building
On the basis of the commercial building gugler with 2140 m² useable floor area existing and 3260 m² useable floor area to be built a concept for a 100% recyclable ecoeffective building will be developed.
IEA EBC Annex 63 - Open seminar and site visits
17. October 2017
Fylkeshuset, Erling Skakkes gate 14, Fylkestingsal B, 3rd floor, Trondheim, NO
Situated by the sea, the charming Trondheim City will be the location for our 7th and last project meeting of the IEA EBC Annex 63. Experts will present the latest within planning tools and guidance, together with "lessons learned" to the topic integrated urban and energy planning.
Specification for biomass heating systems for buildings with low energy demand
The aim of this project was to develop specifications for biomass heating systems for buildings with a low energy demand. The focus was on multi-family residential buildings and office buildings.
"Emerging Sustainability" - Summeracademy `09 for sustainable management
"Heading towards Sustainability" is the central motto for a six-day summer academy. During July 2009 "Emerging Sustainability" will offer an inspiring and activating framework for learning how to successfully implement sustainable development in companies.
Thermal detection of cracks on glowing wire during the process of rolling with regard to reduction of rejections
Developing a non-destructive and fully automated testing to detect surface cracks and laps in rolled wires during the production at temperature values of 800-1000°C and at a material speed of 30-40 m/s, with regard to reduction of rejections.
Evaluation of mechanical class room ventilation systems in Austria and generation of a planning guideline
Accumulation of technical solutions and practical experience of schools (kindergarten) with mechanical ventilation systems and identification of how pupils and teachers accept the systems.
IEA Bioenergy Task 40: Deployment of Biobased Value-Chains (Working Period 2019 - 2021)
IEA Bioenergy Task 40 traditionally focused on international trade and supply chains of biomass for bioenergy. Starting in 2018, the systems view was broadened, also to better meet Austrian requirements. The supply chain focus was maintained, but with a broader premise: The establishment of bio-based value chains for a sustainable and fair bioeconomy.
Energy optimised design rules and integral planning approach for building-integrated photovoltaics in urban areas (VITALITY)
The VITALITY project aims to provide supporting tools, design rules and robust information in the early decision and design phase of building projects. By providing the right information at the right time, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is part of the discussion in the concept phase and the implementation is strongly prepared and supported.
PEAR – Test facility for energy efficient automation and control of buildings
The energy demand calculated in the design phase often differs from measured values in the actual building operation. This projects reviews building automation and operation by presenting a solution how to assess energy efficiency of control strategies in the fields of air conditioning systems, concrete core activation and free cooling. The results are implemented in the demonstration building "Post am Rochus".
Smart Services for resource optimized energy systems in urban districts
The concept of a smart city explicitly refers to a sustainable city development. To apply smart city concepts in practice, it is essential to develop practice- and profit-oriented business models (smart services), which at the same time generate social and ecological benefits. Smart services were developed for the application in three specific city development areas and their practicability was verified in a comprehensive stakeholder process with decision makers.
IEA ES Annex 49: Low Exergy Systems for High-Performance Buildings and Communities
The objective of Annex 49 is the development of approaches for reducing the exergy demand of buildings, so as to reduce the CO2 emissions of the building stock and support structures for sustainable and reliable energy systems in the building sector. To achieve the objectives of Annex 49, the following activities have been carried out:Application of exergy analysis and providing tools, guidelines, best-practice examples and background information for planners and decision makers in the fields of construction, energy and politics Support of cost-efficient low-energy/exergy measures for renovation and new building taking into account both the residential and the service sector Promotion of exergy-related performance analysis of buildings, particularly from the perspectives of communities / regions
ZERMEG III - Decision guidance for the visualisation of the achievements of sustainable corporate strategies
ZERMEG III creates a virtual factory of the future from the combination of the research results of different projects. This model will be used to generate real experience for managers in experimenting taking organisational and technical decisions with regard to a sustainable development.
Optimization of methane production - the Methane Energy Value Model
The biogas production from energy crops will be analyzed and optimized. Energy crops are grown in an environmentally friendly and sustainable crop rotation system. The project provides a secure basis of data for the biogas production and utilisation. Farmers will invest more into the biogas technology.
Digital Submission - Preparation of planning and decision-making processes, digitisation of building permit procedures (D-SUB)
The aim of this project was to develop and evaluate the foundation for the implementation of digital processes for building permit procedures in Styria. The project started with the recording, processing, and validation of the actual processes of building permit procedures of the city of Graz and the municipality of Stainach-Pürgg.
ECC – EnergyCityConcepts – Development of a methodology and concept for the implementation of sustainable energy systems in cities by the example of Gleisdorf and Salzburg
In the context of this project two concrete model regions (small city Gleisdorf and urban city quarter Salzburg-Schallmoos) will be developed and tested with new methodical approaches (interdisciplinary urban and regional energy planning, modeling and simulation). An ambitious political commitment of both model regions is a 100% renewable or rather CO2-neutral energy supply.
