Webinar: Future weather data and heatwaves
31. May 2022
Online, AT
Well-insulated and air-tight buildings are known to be vulnerable to overheating. An increase in the severity and duration of heatwaves is expected, resulting in more severe overheating risks, affecting on their turn the health and mortality of building users. To achieve more future-proof buildings, it is crucial to design buildings that are "resilient" to overheating in future climate conditions.

8. April 2024
Hotel Europa, Graz, AT
This is the third of three workshops of the IEA SHC Task 65, which takes place at the national level. The purpose of these workshops is to bring together collected Austrian know-how into Task 65 and to reflect the findings of international experts, as well as to test the tools and methods developed.
European Networking Group Workshop: Harmonization and Standardization of Electric Road Systems - Roadside Infrastructure
27. - 28. March 2023
University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, Altonaer Straße 25, 99086 Erfurt, DE
This Workshop aims to initiate harmonization processes for standards and regulations with context to roadside equipment for Electric Road Systems (ERS). A consensus between the different existing ERS technologies should be found and new ways to unearth compatible solutions implementing ERS in Europe should be started.
IEA DHC Annex TS2 webinar: Decreasing district heating return temperatures - How to identify critical substations
04. December 2019
Webinar, AT
In this Webinar, we will present measures to decrease return temperatures in substations and methods to identify where to apply them in order to maximize the impact on the entire system. Results for the network at TU Darmstadt Campus Lichtwiese will be shown as an example.
Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to the Energy Supply 2005
The solar thermal collector capacity in operation worldwide equaled 107.8 GWth corresponding to 154 million square meters at the end of the year 2005. Of this, 90.7 GWth were accounted for by flat-plate and evacuated tube collectors and 16.2 GWth for unglazed plastic collectors. Air collector capacity was installed to an extent of 0.9 GWth.

IEA EBC Annex 72: Assessing life cycle related environmental impacts caused by buildings
The construction sector has great potential to reduce its energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts. The IEA EBC Annex 72 therefore focuses on the harmonization of methods for the assessment of construction-specific and operational environmental impacts (primary energy requirements, greenhouse gas emissions and other indicators) throughout the life cycle of buildings.
IEA HPT Task 42: Heat pumps in smart energy grids for sustainable cities
The aim of Annex 42 is to analyse the technical possibilities as well as the economic/regulatory framework conditions of heat pumps for load balancing in smart grids, which are largely controlled by electricity supplier, and to investigate the impact on thermal consumers and possible potentials, in order to work out economic incentive models for load shifting and the benefits for energy supply companies and end customers on this basis.
IEA HPP Annex 33: Compact heat exchangers for heat pumping equipment
International cooperation aiming at widening the use of compact heat exchangers in heat pumping equipment. The goal of this project is to identify compact heat exchangers, either existing or under development, that may be applied in heat pumping equipment such as compression or absorption heat pumps.
IEA EBC Annex 80: Resilient Cooling for Residential and Small Non-Residential Buildings
The rapidly increasing cooling demand for buildings - internationally as well as in Austria - requires further development and application of low energy and low carbon cooling solutions on a large scale. The Annex 80 is meeting this challenge boosting the development and implementation of appropriate cooling solutions by transferring knowledge and coordinating international research endeavours.
IEA EBC Annex 68: Indoor Air Quality Design and Control in Low Energy Residential Buildings
In this project, the scientific basis and data for a coupled calculation and evaluation of indoor air quality and energy efficiency of residential buildings were developed. Assessment metrics and detailed air pollutant models were developed and integrated into the building simulation to derive guidance for the planning and operation of energy-efficient residential buildings.
IEA EBC Annex 84: Demand Management of Buildings in Thermal Networks
The concept of demand-side management (DSM) in buildings to reduce peak loads in the grid is well established in the power sector. The same concept can be applied to shift thermal loads in buildings connected to thermal networks. This project addresses the topic of demand response in buildings, focusing on the collection of case studies, technologies and collaboration models.
IEA-SHC Task 64: Solar Process Heat
The main objective of the task is to identify, verify and promote the role of SHIP (Solar Heat in Industrial Processes) systems as single system and in integrated energy systems. Technical and non-technical barriers will be tackled. The main results of the project are a dimensioning and integration guideline for SHIP and integrated energy systems and a Guideline to Market for SHIP and integrated energy systems.
IEA-SHC Task 65: Solar Cooling for the Sunbelt Regions
Without measures, cooling demand will triple by 2050. The aim of Task 65 is to adapt existing technologies to the boundary conditions of the sunbelt, to find suitable system concepts, to evaluate them and to disseminate the advantages. In addition to system adaptations, the Austrian focus is on life cycle cost-benefit analysis and the further development of existing assessment tools.

Design Guidelines - Solar Space Heating of Factory Buildings With Underfloor Heating Systems (Jaehnig/Weiss 2008)
The energy required for the space heating of factory buildings and warehouses can be a major percentageof the energy consumption of a company. While in some cases, waste heat from other processesin the company is available and is the most cost effective way to heat a factory building, aninteresting option is to use solar energy to cover the heat demand of an industrial building.

IEA EBC Annex 62: Ventilative Cooling
The main goal of the Annex 62 is to make ventilative cooling an attractive and energy efficient cooling solution to avoid overheating in buildings. Ventilation is already present in buildings through mechanical and/or natural systems and it can remove excess heat gains as well as increase air velocities to widen the thermal comfort range. The results from the Annex facilitate better possibilities for both design purposes and for energy performance calculation.
