INFINITE: INnovative FINancing models for sustaInable urban energy sysTEms
The goal of the INFINITE-project is to lay the foundations for a more wide-spread implementation of urban energy supply systems across buildings, using renewable energy sources produced in local supply units. At the same time the projects supports to reduce the demand for fossil fuels and higher-level energy infrastructure.
LehB:klimafit! Live in existing buildings today: climate fit together
The aim of the project is to explore transferable renovation concepts for the implementation of climate-fit renovations in Vienna. Integrally optimized renovation packages will be developed, which will be optimized in the building ensembles for implementation-probable, climate-friendly overall solutions with the relevant stakeholders.
PEQBacker: Integrated District Planning - Enabler on the way to a Plus-Energy District
Development of guidelines for the implementation of Plus-Energy District coordination units based on research of success factors, exploration of mission elements of existing structures and consultation of a broad stakeholder group with the goal of increasing the transformation of existing and emerging neighbourhoods toward Plus-Energy Districts.
CO2 neuBau - The CO2-neutral Construction Site: a Contribution to the Climate Protection by the Austrian Construction Industry
Identification of all direct and indirect CO2, respectively, GHG emissions generated at construction sites. Analysis of the framework conditions and technologies towards demonstrating the options for their control. In parallel, added values, such as cost-benefit advantages of a CO2-neutral construction site, were outlined and quantified.
DiCYCLE - Reconsidering digital deconstruction, reuse and recycle processes using BIM and Blockchain
DiCYCLE aims at identifying, analysing and mapping current End-of-Life processes in the building industry, as well as optimizing those for digitalization, using BIM, Blockchain and Smart Contracts. The goal is to enable sustainable digital planning, construction and deconstruction workflows for reuse and recycling of building materials and components along the life cycle.
SolCalc: Development of a standardized calculation algorithm for the energy consumption assessment and the energy certification of residential buildings with a solar fraction of up to 100% in combination with biomass boilers and heat pumps
Development of a standardized calculation algorithm for the energy consumption assessment and the energy certification of residential buildings with a solar fraction of up to 100% in combination with biomass boilers and heat pumps
Biotope City - construction manual for the green city of the future
"Biotope City" is an overall concept for the implementation of comprehensive urban greening with the aim of using the regenerative mechanisms of nature. With this approach, quality of life is to be comprehensively, sustainably and cost-effectively increased and resilience against extreme weather events in cities will be improved. The project aims to generate realistic components of a "construction manual" for the green city of the future, which are generalizable and transferable.
F4WM - Fit4WienerMission
Preparation for the EU Urban Mission by updating goals and strategies (Smart City Wien Framework strategy, Climate-Roadmap), developing a manual for climate-neutral Viennese neighbourhoods and concepts for the participation of citizens (Climate Citizens' Council) and businesses (Climate Agreements), as well as a city-internal capacity and structural planning.
Manage_GeoCity - Development of a method for the coordinated management of geothermal energy in urban areas
Based on the urban region Graz a method had been developed for the coordinated use and management of shallow geothermal energy for heating and cooling as well as seasonal heat storage in urban regions. Ground water flow, different geologic conditions, heating and cooling demand, heat input from solar collectors and industrial waste heat and the possibilities of seasonal heat storage in the subsurface were considered.
BTTAB - Broad-based testing of energy-efficient demonstration buildings with thermally activated building components
Buildings with thermal building component activation that have not yet been researched in as many federal states and application categories as possible will be monitored, which will include operating data as well as the experiences of those involved. The aim of this study is to take a general look at the various applications of the thermal building component activation technology and to evaluate and compare the pilot projects with the help of suitable evaluation criteria.
UrbanEnergyCells - Requirements for the implementation of energy cells in future energy system designs
The transformation of the currently hierarchical electricity system into a renewable, decentralized electricity system poses major challenges for the actors in the energy industry and society. Most of the installed decentralized renewable energy sources are installed in rural areas, due to easier legal implementation and shorter decision-making pathways. However, the energy density in urban areas is significantly higher, resulting in a transport of electrical energy to the consumption centers.
VITALITY - Energy optimised design rules and integral planning approach for building-integrated photovoltaics in urban areas
The VITALITY project aims to provide supporting tools, design rules and robust information in the early decision and design phase of building projects. By providing the right information at the right time, building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) is part of the discussion in the concept phase and the implementation is strongly prepared and supported.
NEST international - New standards for old houses international
The main goal was to raise awareness for energetic renovations of settlement houses due to the handbook "Neue Standards für alte Häuser" in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In doing so, the refurbishment potential has been identified in the target countries, experiences exchanged and information transferred. Contacts to the relevant target groups have been established.
New standards for old houses - concrete
The campaign is, orientated on the target group, a linked extension of the reconstruction guidance "Neue Standards für alte Häuser" ("New standards for old houses") on the building trade and subconstruction work as well as on the awarding authority.
Formulation of directives for the environmentally conscious choice of upgraded insulation and surface coatings for walls and floors, the basis for the awarding of the international eco-label natureplus

SIBAT - Ensuring indoor air quality of buildings - inclusion of toxicological criteria in the assessment of building materials

Development of a pragmatic assessment scheme applicable to building practice for the impact of building products on human health
Service packages for the ecological renovation of buildings

Services for a comprehensive ecological renovation should comprise advice, design and construction as well as "green" building assessment and innovative financing models. Such services are developed together with companies in the construction business and tested in pilot projects.
Basic research on fixing elements: drawing up universal design guidelines for high resilience mechanical jointing techniques for insulation products

The objective of this project is to explore mechanical insulant-fixing connections. Unconventional but concrete fixing techniques are the focus of the investigation. The use of insulants as "lost" casing will also be studied in depth.
BIGMODERN - Subproject 5: Feasibility studies about innovative technical solutions
The application of innovative technologies means additional planning and coordination effort which usually cannot be incorporated into the conventional planning processes of the BIG. To overcome these barriers for the application of innovative technologies, the sub project at hand aims at preparing information, feasibility studies, planning records, experiences and practical examples in a way, that they can be implemented directly into the planning process.
