Interregional Logistics- and Procurement Network for Forest Fuel in Austria
A concept for a cooperative forest fuel supply chain network for a large part of Austria (regions of Salzburg, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Vienna) is developed in order to minimise transport-, storage- and total system costs while simultaneously increasing supply guarantee for the plants.
Optimisation of raw material for bio-ethanol production
Selection and development of wheat and triticale cultivars particularly suitable for the requirements of bio-ethanol production also taking into account agronomic needs and properties, feed quality of mash and toxicologic aspects.
IEA Bioenergy Task "Thermal Gasification of Biomass"
Obtaining, preparation and circulation of information about international evolutions in the field "thermal gasification of biomass" as well as management of different task emphases.
Micro Gas Turbine
Combined heat and power generation with split-logs and power systems
Austria with its large forests is a classical country for biomass use. Heating with split-logs is state-of-the-art for several years, and using combined heat and power systems for small powers to obtain self-sustaining households is an additional utilization.
Open up Austria's biomass potential till 2050
Development of an optimal strategy to open up Austria's biomass potential until the year 2050. The optimal strategy maximizes the reduction of GHG emissions. Provision of an action plan for a temporal dynamic implementation of this strategy.
Upgrading of biogas for the gas distribution system of Salzburg
Development of a cost-effective cleaning unit, free of waste-products, for the upgrading of biogas to natural gas quality. Elaboration of the basis for a demonstration project injecting biogas into the gas distribution system of Salzburg.
Straw pellets for small-scale combustion units
Assessment of the operation of straw pellets fired small-scale combustion systems. Investigation and assessment of different refractory materials with respect to corrosion and evaluation of primary and secondary measures to reduce gaseous and particulate emissions.
Establishing a logistics concept for an efficient collection of biogenous waste as input for energy recovery in biogas plants.
The basic organizational and technical conditions along with possible obstacles and critical success factors are investigated.
Biomass-Logistic-Centers
By establishing regionally best situated logistic centers it shall be guaranteed that in all of Styria transport and processing costs will be reduced and that a continual supply of biomass firewood of constant quality is ensured.
Pellets furnaces of the future - "Pelletvergaserkessel 2010"
During the utilisation of biomass as primary energy source in the small-scale presently the CO-, NOx- and particulate emissions are higher than e.g. for natural gas. The planned development will decrease the emissions from pellets furnaces significantly and will define a new state-of-the-art combustion.
Energy center for the production of heat, power, substitute natural gas and liquid biofuels
The project deals with the production of synthesis gas from biological fuels and biological residues using steam blown gasification. This synthesis gas will be used for polygeneration especially for heat, power, gaseous (substitute natural gas, SNG) and/or liquid fuel production.
Compatibility of sustainability and economic efficiency of bioethanol production with a special focus on small-sized ethanol plants
Scientific investigation of compatibility of sustainability and economic efficiency of bioethanol production with a special focus on small-sized ethanol plants. Improvement of energetic efficiency by integration of residuals from feedstock- and bioethanol production.
Innovative system for decentralized CHP on basis of biomass gasification with process optimized production of a low-tar producer gas
Tar loads in the producer gas of CHP-plants based on biomass gasification are reduced by primary measures (staged gasification), whereby the possibilities for application are increased.
Development of an business segment called "Waldbiomasseversorgung-SÜDOST" through senior utilization of non active wood
A sharp increase in the Austrian industry's demand for wood, and in particular the rising need of biomass plant operators for energy wood, has led to a fundamental transformation of the timber market from a buyer's to a seller's market. New marketing opportunities in terms of a range of wood energy products, combined with an efficient way of harvesting, have opened up new economic prospects for the forestry industry.
IEA Bioenergy Task "Biomass Combustion and Co-firing"
Obtaining, preparation and circulation of information about international evolutions in the biomass combustion field and -co combustion, collaboration at and management of task emphases
Field test of a virtual power Plant comprising 30 pellet-boiler fired micro-CHP modules
A virtual biomass plant comprising 30 micro-CHP-Modules, each of them integrated into an existing pellets-boiler in the Austrian region of eastern Styria is to be tested. The goal of this project is to gain experience and to introduce a new sustainable technology.
BioLog II - Interregional Logistics- and Procurement Network for Forest Fuel in Austria
A concept for a cooperative forest fuel supply chain network for two regions of Austria is developed in order to minimise total system costs while simultaneously increasing supply guarantee for the plants. With results from previous projects and import data a concept for whole Austria is developed.
