The tension between tradition and modernity is shown and exemplarily solved on the example of the historic farmhouse "vulgo Weber". The object was converted into an energy plus house with an exceptionally holistic approach and also thought as a demonstration object for a broad public through the touristic use of the house.

Development of a "Light Well" for daylight transparent, highly energy-efficient, multi-story buildings

Daylight supply of multi-story buildings with the help of rooflight openings. Reflecting vertical ducts transport light down to the lower­most floor. The idea promises new building structures with daylight transparency and high energy-efficiency that have a minimal demand of artificial light and cooling at optimal comfort.

BIGMODERN - Subproject 4: Life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) during the planning process

Creation of technical and organisational preconditions for constructors to integrate life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) already into the planning process. Furthermore, the findings will be applied within the two demonstration projects of the flagship project BIGMODERN (SP2 and SP3). OptoControl - Modern sensor systems for energy conservation in buildings

The necessary efficiency of modern energy-self-sufficient buildings can only be achieved with intelligent control of the key parameters. The main focus of the project is the adaptation of optical sensor concepts for application in building technology. The future goal of the project is to supply the modern energy-plus-house with an appropriate and intelligent control device to minimize energy loss.

MOTIVE – Modeling, Optimizing, and technical integration of Vacuum-Glazing-Elements

This project addressed the development of construction details for the implementation of vacuum glazing panels in new windows. In this project such constructions (form of frame, thermal bridges, structural aspects, mounting of glass) were explored via empirical experiments and via simulation. As an outcome, a mock-up was constructed, and the findings were documented in a comprehensive document.

Based on the results of the exploratory study project REC-Businesspark, a demonstrator for a "renewable energy community business park" is to be developed in Weiz. Exploration of a sustainable single-family house redevelopment, with a holistically conceived definition of sustainability that starts with people, is based on sufficiency and also takes into account green and open spaces, social factors and mobility. The result is an integrated overall concept at the house and settlement level, and a transferable approach for other communities.

HotCity - Gamification as a possibility to generate data for energy-oriented neighbourhood planning

The aim of the project was a functional test to determine whether an up-to-date data set of energy-oriented data can be collected for neighbourhood planning through gamification, cost-efficiently, quickly and reliably. This had been determined using the example of the potential determination of industrial and commercial waste heat sources in Vienna and Graz.

LEKOECOS - combined economic-ecological life cycle assessment model

The consumption of ecological and economic resources over the whole life cycle is supposed to be anticipated and optimised in the design process of buildings and refurbishments. A combined life cycle assessment model together with an economic-ecological base element catalogue considering the klima:aktiv criteria was developed based on the structure of the life cycle cost model LEKOS and the ecological valuation tool Ecosoft.

IEA SHC Task 48: Quality Assurance and Support Measures for Solar Cooling

The completed IEA SHC Task 48 focused on an enhanced quality improvement and market-support measures for the technology option ‘solar thermal cooling or air-conditioning'. In cooperation with a total of 22 organizations (12 research institutes, 5 universities and 5 companies) from eight countries numerous useful reports and tools have been created to improve the quality of solar cooling systems with significant contribution of the Austrian partners.
