"Energy saving" - the best PR strategy for sustainable housing?

The project aim is the clarification and PR-reevaluation of the thematic field "energy/energy saving" as a chance to study users and market forces close and factual to have a secure base for the development of new concepts, slogans and incentives in Austria.
home dreams

Listening to the inhabitants of innovative buildings and using their satisfactory and unsatisfactory experiences as the basis for drawing up practice based criteria and recommendations for a quality, user-orientated building policy. The target groups are funding bodies, building contractors and town planners.
homeVALUE

The ecology and economy of housing. An assessment system for the evaluation of the suitability of buildings and housing estates for the future.
OEKOPLUS-KOMPLEX - Analysis of the technical, economical and ecological preconditions for the establishment and utilisation of plus-energy-buildings and building assemblies
The evolution of the low energy house and the passive house standards to the plus energy standard results in a clear reduction of green house gas emissions as well as the primary energy input. The goal of the project was the determination of the technical, ecological and economic basic conditions for the construction and the use of "plus-energy-buildings" in order to finally realize them.
IEA SHC, Task Solar Thermal Plants with Advance Thermal Storage Technologies for Low Energy Buildings

Participation in TASK 32 "Storage concepts for solar buildings". Subtask leader of the subtask for heat storage based on phase change materials
Evaluation of the planning and building processes of multi-storey wooden construction residential and office buildings, and the development of measures to optimise these processes.

An analysis of the building and planning processes of multi-storey wooden construction residential and office buildings, taking into consideration the opinions of the professionals involved (planners, building contractors, building executives), then the development, documentation and distribution of ways to optimise these processes, using "Info-Tool" software.
City Dialog - Evaluation of future research topics for the "city of the future" through stakeholder dialog.
The integration of key stakeholder views allowed an extensive evaluation and prioritisation of research topics for the "city of the future". The discussion had been organised in workshops with stakeholder groups (public administration, science & research, residents).
"gugler! build & print triple zero" - subproject 4: energy concept Gugler
The energy concept led Gugler in frame of the conversion and expansion of the company towards plus-energy standard. Significant measures ware a consequent maximum reduction of the energy demand, optimal utilisation of industrial waste-heat, maximum consumption of on-site energy sources, integrated energy production, ecologic load management with comprehensive response- and storage-techniques.
Renewable resources in the building sector

Investigation of factors which support and hinder acceptance: Technical, legal/political and organisational levels considered, focus on innovative solutions with high market potential, thematic focal areas: straw bale building, surface treatment, acoustic and thermal insulation
Energy relevant and ecological monitoring studies of demonstration buildings, which were built in the framework of the program "Haus der Zukunft".
Energy relevant and ecological monitoring studies of demonstration buildings, which were built in the framework of the program "Haus der Zukunft". The user acceptance should also be levied and displayed
Solarenergie Urban - Analysis and evaluation of the economic, energetic and architectural quality of urban solar energy buildings
This project developed energetic and economic optimised planning criteria for multi storey residential buildings for the integration of renewable energy systems in the building shell. The field of new construction and refurbishment had been investigated.
Reduction of cooling requirements through optimized urban structures and processes and design optimisation in building design (smartKB*)
Based on a systematic listing of appropriate methods, recommended actions have been developed to reduce the cooling requirements in new or renovated buildings on three levels: a) optimization and use of appropriate urban structures, b) design strategies and passive measures for building concepts, c) reduction of cooling requirements through integrated planning processes.
Sol2Pump - High efficient combination of solar thermal plants, photovoltaic and heat pumps
Targeting a high level of decentralised energy supply on basis of renewable energy, the project analysed the possible combinations of solar thermal energy, photovoltaic and heat pumps. The project aimed to maximise the domestic energy supply due to utilisation of the building as short term energy storage. In addition to that, several optimisation measures had been developed. The impact on the energy supply and demand will be economically assessed through life cycle costing. On this basis, the potential load transfer and the use of this kind of systems had been evaluated in combination with smart grids.
e3building - ecology, economy, efficiency: An International Network for the Entire Building Industry

Embedded in the EUREKA initiative PREPARE e3building serves as a network for the know-how exchange between building and construction industry, researchers and the funding programme on a national as well as an international level.
Innovation and Sustainability in the Construction and Housing Sector
Concepts for enhancing in-house innovation in construction; development of performance and benchmarking indicators in the housing sector. Economic proposals to improve legal and structural business environment and to increase sustainable and energy efficient construction and renovation activities.
IEA-PVPS.net - Network for increased use of Photovoltaics in buildings

IEA Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (PVPS) - Co-ordination, perception of the functions and spreading of the results of this international solar network
BioSkin - Research potentials for biologically inspired energy efficient façade components and systems
The research study was targeting the identification of strategic research potentials in the field of biomimetics for innovative facade technologies of the future. With the identification of useful principles of biological role models and the transfer to bionic facade concepts, interdisciplinary R&D research activities are improved to enable the development of sustainable solutions for climate-adaptive energy-efficient facades systems of the future.
Development of a Cost-Benefit-Tool: costs and benefits of energy efficient and ecologic buildings
Development of a cost-benefit-tool which reaches beyond a pure cost approach and also recognizes the benefits of a building for its inhabitants and users. The inclusion of benefits is based on existing evaluation systems, especially on the Austrian building evaluation system TQB - Total Quality Building, which has been revised in 2009.
GAINING BUILDING LAND without expansion - development of single-family housing settlements

Identifying and utilising potentials for higher densities and re-structuring in single-family housing areas requiring renewal
Recommendations for a consolidated Austrian research in the topic of "Smart Cities"
Based on a clear definition of the topics and focusing on energy relevant aspects the project will provide an overview on the present points of focus in research on "Smart Cities". Furthermore, future research topics will be defined and evaluated, and action plans for political stakeholders will be elaborated in the framework of two expert workshops.
