Building as living lab - Buildings as a living lab for climate-neutral, needs-based and affordable housing

Within ÖWG, climate protection and sustainability are strategically anchored in renovation and densification projects. A comprehensive, climate-neutral renovation concept had been developed for a specific pilot property in Graz in an open, co-creative innovation process. The building becomes a living lab in which new solutions are tested in the everyday lives of the residents.

PESI - Paradigm shift in urban energy systems through synergies with industry

Analysis of different options for the use of industrial surplus energies of various shapes (waste heat, waste water, waste) and renewable energy sources in the industrial sector (e.g. solar panels on roof surfaces) in adjacent urban areas, which act as an "energy sponge". Based on real consumption and availability data, a simulation model was created and opportunities for synergies were documented.

STP2030, St. Pölten 2030: KlimaNEUTRAL + KlimaFIT

A broadly based, participatory strategy process for the co-creative development of the “Roadmap to Climate Neutrality” St. Pölten by 2030. The roadmap is based on a shared vision, which is differentiated into transformation paths in different fields of action. The result is a “climate of change” in urban society that serves as the basis for participation in tenders, cooperation and implementation on the way to climate neutrality.

The Green Parking Space – Utilization of urban parking areas for production of biomass

Many traffic areas in urban environments are actually used as such only a small fraction of the time. Subject of this project was to investigate the possibility of using those areas by additional integration of photobioreactors for the production of biomass, integrating such systems to the maximum extent into the urban substance and energy cycles.

IEA HEV Task 45: Electrified roads (E-roads)

Electric vehicles can be charged stationary as well as dynamically while driving on so-called "e-roads". From a systemic point of view, this technology can be an addition to stationary charging and is not competing. Internationally, the academic and political discussion in this field is progressing rapidly. Task 45 aims for a mutual knowledge exchange, a joint understanding of next steps and a contribution of the Austrian position into the international debate.
