Agriculture 2020
Agriculture will become an important supplier of sustainable energy services for society. However, this sector can only fulfil this role if it operates on the base of sustainable energy provision itself. The project will determine the necessary measures to achieve this state for a concrete regional setting (eastern Styria) by the year 2020.
NEST international - New standards for old houses international
The main goal was to raise awareness for energetic renovations of settlement houses due to the handbook "Neue Standards für alte Häuser" in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In doing so, the refurbishment potential has been identified in the target countries, experiences exchanged and information transferred. Contacts to the relevant target groups have been established.
IEA UsersTCP Empowering all: Gender in policy and implementation for achieving transitions to sustainable energy (Working period 2022-2024)
Previous work in the Task suggests that countries with higher income levels pay little attention to inclusive energy (-technology) use and its implications. Therefore, this project focused on obtaining more data on the gender aspects of energy users through a survey, developing guidelines on inclusive technology development, and communicating the overall research results with interested stakeholders.
Renewable energy in Austria: Modelling possible development trends until 2020
The project investigates possible economic, social and environmental effects of a sustainable energy policy. Within a participatory modelling process a sustainability model is used to simulate different energy scenarios (with a focus on renewable energy technologies) for Austria until 2020.

Technology Platform Photovoltaic Austria
Between research institutions and the economic system the way has been paved to initiate joint R&D projects. Common research activities have been initiated and intensified to be able to position local companies in international niche markets for photovoltaics.
IEA SHC Task 52: Solar Thermal & Energy Economics in Urban Environments
IEA SHC Task 52 focused on the analysis of the future role of solar thermal heat in integrated urban energy systems. The potential of solar thermal applications to cover the low-temperature heat demand in future low-carbon energy systems was investigated against the background of the rapidly changing framework conditions in the energy sector. Best practice examples for the integration of solar thermal systems into urban energy systems were evaluated and documented.
Solar thermal cooling system consisting of a parabolic trough collector field and a steam jet ejector chiller
A solar thermal cooling system consisting of a parabolic trough collector field and a steam jet ejector chiller has been developed. The necessary components were built and tested and finally put together to get an operating pilot plant at the test facility.
IEA IETS Task 11: Industrial Biorefineries (Working period 2022-2024)
Biorefineries producing a portfolio of biobased products or bioenergy are the backbone of the growing bioeconomy. IEA IETS Task 11 aims to minimize greenhouse gas emissions to net zero along different biorefinery pathways. Tools and methodologies for increasing energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies are to be summarized and disseminated to relevant target groups.
Waste heat utilisation and use of renewable energy sources in a metal-working enterprise
Use of waste heat and covering of the remaining energy demand by the renewable energy sources hydropower and biomass in a metal-processing company.
IEA IETS Annex 11: Industrial Biorefineries (Working period 2020-2022)
With the increasing market share of bio-based products, the concepts of circular economy are highly relevant for the industry. In this context, biorefineries have established themselves as an explicitly integrative, multi-functional overall concept and essential hub in the use of biomass as a raw material source for the sustainable production of various (intermediate) products (chemicals, valuable materials, energy carriers).
