The aim of Annex 42 is to analyse the technical possibilities as well as the economic/regulatory framework conditions of heat pumps for load balancing in smart grids, which are largely controlled by electricity supplier, and to investigate the impact on thermal consumers and possible potentials, in order to work out economic incentive models for load shifting and the benefits for energy supply companies and end customers on this basis.

The Technology Collaboration Programme on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (HEV TCP) vision is that the electric drivetrain will be used as the predominant transportation mode in a sustainable transport system that is preferably powered by renewable energy and does not produce harmful emissions.
IEA SHC Task 54: Price reduction
IEA SHC Task 54 was an interdisciplinary, collaborative project with the main focus on significant price reductions of solar thermal systems. Measures to achieve a reduction of the customer price up to 40% included simplified system designs, standardized components and cost-efficient materials and production and installation processes.
IEA EBC Annex 63: Implementation of Energy Strategies in Communities
As part of the "Annex 63" project, Austria has worked with 10 other countries to develop guidelines for the successful implementation of energy strategies at local level. The results include support for nine strategic measures, descriptions of case studies, support materials and recommendations for different target groups.

IEA EBC Annex 73: Towards Net Zero Energy Resilient Public Communities
Public buildings such as hospitals and educational institutions often house critical infrastructure that depends on sufficient energy and resource supply. The aim of the annex was to develop tools for the planning process of resilient, efficient and low-emission energy systems for such building clusters.
IEA EBC Working Group on Cities and Communities (WGCC)
The WGCC enables information and experience exchange, the identification of bottlenecks that lead to specific research questions and a direct communication with cities on their needs, to enable them to transform their energy systems. The working group is a joint initiative across several TCPs with in-depth participation of technical and non-technical (external) experts.

In Task 40, demand and supply are compared, based on global scenarios of the development of electric vehicle fleets, battery technologies, primary and secondary raw material potentials and recycling technologies. Potential overall ecological and social impacts of raw material and battery production are assessed.

Solar Heat Worldwide - Markets and Contribution to the Energy Supply 2005
The solar thermal collector capacity in operation worldwide equaled 107.8 GWth corresponding to 154 million square meters at the end of the year 2005. Of this, 90.7 GWth were accounted for by flat-plate and evacuated tube collectors and 16.2 GWth for unglazed plastic collectors. Air collector capacity was installed to an extent of 0.9 GWth.
