Innovative moth-protection system for sheepwool insulation
This project developed a novel "bio-pesticide"-formula by screening plant extracts and minerals for their strong repellant activity in order to protect sheepwool insulation from cloth moth infestation. It was investigated and examined by state-of-the-art-technology that the anti-moth-mixture extracted from plants and minerals, acts as a valid alternative to existing pest control agents.

The content of subproject 5 was the analysis of energy- as well as building-biology-related issues for the evaluation and quality management of the demo-project in Kapfenberg, which involves a high-quality refurbishment to a plus energy house within the program "Haus der Zukunft - Building of Tomorrow". Within this process the user acceptance before, during and after the renovation was elevated and this will be processed for upcoming projects. The environmental quality of the building regarding the choice of materials and measures during the construction phase and the subsequent use of the building was assessed with the help of the TQB-planning and evaluation tool.

In the project ERP_hoch3 energy related policy research in three Austrian agglomerations (Vienna – Lower Austria, Graz – Styria and Vorderland-Feldkirch) has been done, scenarios of the current state and the target state have been modelled and calculated. The aim was to develop generic transferable recommendations for spatial energy planning in agglomerations.

Das hohe Abwärmetemperaturniveau der SOFC-Brennstoffzelle eignet sich prinzipiell um unterschiedliche Wärme- und Stromverbraucher (Wohnbau, Industriebetriebe, ...) bedienen zu können. Ziel ist es, die Abwärme der Brennstoffzelle auf mehreren Temperaturniveaus zur Verfügung zu stellen, um so die Vorteile der Brennstoffzelle besser zu nutzen und den Einsatz für den städtischen Bereich zu prüfen. Einerseits werden die rechtlichen und marktwirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen dazu erhoben, anderseits wird die technische Ausführbarkeit mittels CFD-Simulationen der Wärmeauskopplung sondiert.

THERM-opti-BALCONY: Thermal Optimized Renovation of Balconies
Pre-cast cantilever balconies represent a particular problem in the thermal renovation of buildings. The central goal of this project is the development of practical and cost-effective mounting solutions for the thermally decoupled reconstruction of balconies on building frontages and achieving a significant increase in the energy performance of the thermal renovation measure.
"Alles Palette" - Entwicklung des Palettenhauses zur Serienreife
Das 2007 im EU-weiten Wettbewerb GAU:DI siegreiche Projekt "Palettenhaus" besteht aus 800 (gebrauchten) Paletten. Es war im Maßstab 1:1 bei der Biennale in Venedig 2008 ausgestellt und wurde im Projekt zur Serienreife entwickelt. Dafür wurden exemplarisch zwei Szenarien untersucht: die (temporäre) Bebauung des Flugfelds in Aspern und die Errichtung eines Low-cost Gebäudes in Südafrika.
