ecoRegeneration: Development of a "Merit-Order" in order to assess regeneration heat for geothermal probes within urban residential neighbourhoods.

In urban residential areas there are not enough active-cooled usages, to use the waste heat of the cooling process as required regeneration heat for geothermal probes; free cooling of the apartments is not sufficient. The project is developing various options (waste heat from commercial uses in the ground floor zones of residential buildings, by using waste heat of data centres, additional installation of heat generation systems for regeneration) within the urban settlement area, business models and is calculating life-cycle-costs of all solutions. The result should be a kind of "merit order" for regeneration heat.

Energy Efficiency and Risk Management in Public Buildings (EnRiMa)

The major objective of the project EnRiMa was to develop an internet based decision-support system (DSS) to enable operators of public buildings to increase the system efficiency as well as to reduce the CO2 emissions. The DSS can be linked to existing energy management systems as DESIGOTM. The University of Applied Science Burgenland, Campus Pinkafeld, and ENERGYbase, Vienna, have been used to test and calibrate the EnRiMa DSS.

Energy-Sponge: The Building as an Energy-Sponge - Electricity In - Heat Out

Innovative, dynamic control concepts shall be developed which enable (air) heat pumps in combination with PV- or renewable grid electricity to use the building mass of a multi-familiy house as heat storage. User acceptance shall be evaluated and possible business models shall be developed.

FEELings - User Feedback for Energy Efficiency in Buildings

User behavior is a key factor for the energy consumption and the actual energetic performance of a building. A new type of user feedback system will be investigated in this research project. Users provide feedback on the sensed room quality. The data obtained by the feedback system are used to optimize settings of building services in order to improve the energy efficiency and the comfort in the building. A basic proof of concept of this system will be undertaken by means of two use cases.

fit4power2heat

The integration of heat pumps can increase the cost effectiveness of existing heating networks and counter the high costs for the expansion of power grids at the same time. Aim of the project is to develop innovative business models for small and medium municipal heating networks with focus on synergies between heat and power market. Main focus is a heat pump pooling for several heat grids.

FiTNeS - Facade integrated modular Split-heat pump for new buildings and refurbishment

The goal of FitNeS is the development of modular split heat pumps with compact and silent façade-integrated outdoor units for heating and domestic hot water preparation (and optionally cooling in combination with PV). The outstanding features of the concept are a modular design with a high degree of prefabrication and representing a visually and architectonically attractive, economic and sustainable solution for both new constructions and renovations. One of the main development goals is the minimization of sound emissions by means of optimized flow control.

FIVA - Window prototypes with integrated vacuum glazing

This project targets the further development of windows with integrated vacuum glazing. Such glass products regularly feature a very low Ug-value, and their dimension is in comparison to insulation glass thin and light. As such, these products offer a new alternative for highly-insulating window constructions, and thus also for energy-efficiency measures in buildings. The project is based on the findings of a previous exploratory project (MOTIVE) and focuses on the construction of functional prototypes of vacuum glass windows together with business partners.

FM.Comfort/FM.Ware - Software for optimizing the use of energie and other resources in the virtual house

The expert system FM.Comfort/FM.Ware realizes the so called virtual house (vh). The virtual house is the computer model of a real building. This computer model supports the optimization of the use of energy and other resources by analysis of the life and work habits of the residents and the positive influence on inhabitants-behaviours (user motivation).

Fundamentals on the development of ecological high class insulation composites made from natural plant fibres

Fundamentals on an insulation made from flax and hemp fibres which can be directly pargeted on the outer wall of a building had been developed. Only ecological glues and additives were used. Variations of the production and the additives optimized the technical properties. In addition flame proofing and thermal transfer were tested. After the laboratory tests a prototype finished the project.
