IEA-ISGAN Annex 2: Smart Grid Case Studies (Working period from 2019)
ISGAN is the International Actions Network on Smart Grids, a Technology Cooperation Program of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerials (CEM). The work in ISGAN is structured in eight standing working groups (annexes). The aim of this Annex 2 is to provide detailed information on the current status of pilot- and demonstration projects on Smart Grids taking place in different countries, environments and regulatory boundary conditions.
Three communication methods are used for this purpose:
Casebooks describe demonstration projects highlighting a certain focus of Smart Grids research and development, which also undergo yearly updates. The first version of each casebook is published as printed document; subsequent books are available on the ISGAN-website.
The survey on drivers and technologies for Smart Grid projects identifies countries' specific motivating drivers for pursuing Smart Grids and catalogues existing activities.
International interactive exchange of experiences and best practices is promoted in the newly developed Knowledge Transfer Projects (KTPs). These projects allow for an interactive dialogue with ISGAN members as well as interested stakeholders via workshops. Contributions from all participating countries are collected beforehand via an extensive survey and are shared in telephone conferences and in a pre-workshop document. This gives room for developing recommendations for decision makers at the workshop.
Main goal of Austria's participation in IEA ISGAN Annex 2 is the improved positioning of Austrian research projects and the integration of international research results into current and planned national projects. Through these activities the national energy research becomes more efficient, as Austria has the opportunity to discuss national experiences with experts all over the world and to directly transfer extensive knowledge and international developments to Austria.
Austria, Canada, China, European Commission, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and US.
