Das EU-geförderte eco2building-Bausystem in Holzrahmen-basierter Modulbauweise ist der erste systematische Ansatz für energiesparendes Bauen im Sektor kommerzieller Gebäude. Mit der Errichtung des eco²building Demonstrationsobjekts - eines Logistik-Zentrums in Passivhaus-Qualität für die Eine Welt Handel AG - in Niklasdorf wurden die Planungs- und Produktions-Abläufe optimiert und die Markteinführung des eco²building Bausystems vorbereitet. Eine Begleitforschung erfasste die Erfahrungen und verbreitet sie.

Im Projekt werden biogene Baumaterialien aus Holzindustrie-Abfällen und Geopolymer-Bindemitteln entwickelt, die als Stampf-Schüttung oder 3D-gedruckte Trockenestrichelemente im Holzbau verwendet werden können. Diese Materialien bieten funktionale Vorteile und eine hervorragende Ökobilanz, tragen zur Schonung der Wälder bei und ermöglichen durch digitale Fertigungstechnologien die Herstellung trenn- und wiederverwendbarer Fußbodensegmentplatten. Dadurch wird der Verbrauch von Primärrohstoffen signifikant reduziert.
