IEA ES TCP Industry Workshop: Thermal Energy Storage

14. September 2026, 13:00 - 16:00 CEST
University Freiburg – KGI (Kollegiengebäude "Academic Building"), Platz der Universität 3, 79098 Freiburg im Breisgau, DE

This workshop on Materials and Components for Thermal Energy Storage (including Phase Change Materials (PCM), Thermochemical Materials (TCM), and high-temperature (High-T) sensible heat storage technologies) aims to communicate the latest work and achievements of IEA ES Task 47 and Task 48 (both joint activities with the IEA SHC Technology Collaboration Programme) to industry and, in return, receive input on their current wishes, challenges, and requirements concerning thermal energy storage.

Content Description

Industries working on the development of thermal energy storage technologies and products experience the challenges in optimise material and component performance for their thermal storage applications. With this workshop, we would like to bring these industries in contact with the experts working on thermal energy storage materials and components in so-called Tasks of the International Energy Agency.

In a series of short presentations, experts will highlight recent achievements in the development of materials and components for thermal energy storage for high-temperature sensible, phase change and thermochemical energy storage technologies. These presentations give ground to a discussion with the industry experts: what are their challenges in their present development and their wishes for better development and innovation?

Thermal Energy Storage is one of the main topics of the conference, making it very worthwhile to also attend the Eurosun2026.
