IEA IETS Task 19: Electrification of Industry (Working period 2025 - 2026)
Short Description
Industrial electrification refers to any change in industrial processes and the upstream energy supply chain resulting from the transition to renewable electricity as the primary energy source for the energy used in industrial processes.
This period of IETS Task 19 (Subtask 3) focuses on three areas:
- assessing the status quo of industrial electrification: progress in industrial electrification technologies, collecting and comparing case studies,
- analyzing the impacts/changes of electrification at the level of industrial energy systems,
- classifying electrification in comparison with other methods of decarbonization: challenges and opportunities – where is electrification particularly easy or necessary compared to other non-fossil alternatives?
After co-establishing Task 19 and contributing intensively to the previous Subtask 2, the Austrian consortium and its cooperation partners will continue their participation. In addition to the Austrian contributions in the form of presentations/representations of Austrian research, demonstration, and implementation projects, there will again be a task meeting in Austria, which will position Austria as a pioneering industrial technology country in the IETS community.
The work of the Austrian consortium, as before, focuses on optimal exchange between the Austrian stakeholders and the Austrian projects on the one hand, and the international community and their perspectives/experiences on the other. This will be ensured through intensive, structured exchange in the international task and through coordination/workshops at the national level. At the international level, the creation of a joint project database forms the foundation for the analyses.
