IEA Hydrogen (Hydrogen TCP)

The Hydrogen TCP aims to accelerate deployment and use of hydrogen technologies by carrying out and co-ordinating collaborative activities of analysis, applied research and communication.

Short Description

The Hydrogen TCPs mission is to accelerate hydrogen implementation and widespread utilization to optimize environmental protection, improve energy security and promote economic development.

The strategy of the IEA's Hydrogen Program is to facilitate, coordinate, and maintain innovative RD&D activities through international cooperation and information exchange.

The Strategic Framework (2015-2020) fosters collaborative RD&D in the fields of hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, integrated hydrogen systems and hydrogen integration in existing infrastructure (power-to-hydrogen and hydrogen-to-X). Furthermore studies on technological status, market development, safety and recommendations for decision makers are being prepared. The TCP also undertakes awareness raising, dissemination and outreach activities to potential new member countries.

The strategic plan for the years 2020 - 2025 is currently being drawn up. The work will focus more strongly than in the past on cross-sectoral issues and the answers that can be derived from them. Closer cooperation with other IEA TCPs and the IEA secretariat will also be sought.

Austria joined the Hydrogen TCP in September 2018 with the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology as contracting party.

Publications

Global Outlook and Trends for Hydrogen (2017)

The report gives a good overview in the form of 13 theses on the possibilities of hydrogen as a problem solver for achieving the climate goals of Paris in a clear and cross-sector form.

Annual reports

The Annual Report 2017 provides a good overview of TCP activities.

Newsletter

The "IEA H2 News" is published every six months. These reports will provide a good overview of both technical and economic news. Also short reports from the current tasks can be read.
