IEA 4E Power Electronic Conversion Technology Annex (PECTA) - Expert Workshop

27. April 2022
Via Zoom, Vienna, AT

PECTA is one of the four Annexes of the IEA Energy Efficient End-Use Equipment (4E) Technology Collaboration Programe (TCP). PECTA engages with relevant research, government and industry stakeholders worldwide to monitor the development, assess the benefit and impacts of using Wide Band Gap technology (SiC and GaN), and provide information to policy makers. This 2nd PECTA workshop aims at discussing the latest progress of work.

Content Description

New wide-band-gap (WBG) semiconductors based on materials like Silicon carbide (SiC) and Gallium nitride (GaN) show higher efficiency potential compared to the currently dominant semiconductor material, Silicon (Si), due to their outstanding switching loss characteristics, and the possibility to operate at higher blocking voltages and increased operating temperatures.

The Power Electronic Conversion Technology Annex - PECTA engages with relevant research, government and industry stakeholders worldwide to monitor the development, assess the benefit and impacts of utilizing WBG technology, provide information to policy makers, and build the foundation for suitable policies for the adoption of WBG as an energy efficient technology.

This is the second PECTA workshop with experts aimed at presenting the progress of the ambitious work plan, which investigates, together with independent experts from research and academia, selected topics of importance in six tasks.

The 6 active tasks of PECTA will be showcased in this workshop, to present their progress, and the experts leading the tasks will discuss their approaches in exploring in more detail different aspects related to the wider adoption and use of Wide Band Gap (WBG) technologies driven by SiC and GaN. This workshop is an exciting opportunity to learn more on how PECTA is going forward.
