ISGAN Knowledge Exchange on Experimental Sandboxes to Enable Smart Grid Deployment

1. - 3. April 2019
Stockholm, SE

The objective of this ISGAN inter-annex collaboration initiative is to take concrete steps forward in regard to identifying key lessons learned and examples of good practice related to the design and implementation of regulatory sandboxes.

Organizer

The International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) in partnership with International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER)

Content Description

In-depth knowledge exchange event on models for regulatory (experimental) sandboxes to enable smart grid deployment.

This event is part of a broader scope of activities ISGAN is undertaking along with partner organizations to advance international dialogue around good practices and new approaches for innovative market and power system design needed to catalyze smart grid investments. It is an ISGAN inter-Annex collaboration by ISGAN Annex 2, Annex 4, Annex 7, Annex 8.

About ISGAN

The International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN) creates a strategic platform to support high-level government attention and action for the accelerated development and deployment of smarter, cleaner electricity grids around the world. As both a Clean Energy Ministerial initiative and an International Energy Agency Technology Collaboration Programme, ISGAN seeks to accelerate progress on key aspects of smart grid policy, technology, and investment through voluntary participation by country members and their designees in specific projects and programs where governments have regulatory authority, expertise, convening power, or other leverage.

Program

The objective of this initiative is to take concrete steps forward in regard to identifying key lessons learned and examples of good practice related to the design and implementation of regulatory sandboxes. With this knowledge countries are better placed to create conditions favorable to smart grid investment and deployment. To achieve this objective, the initiative includes the following interlinked and mutually supporting activities to take place in Stockholm Sweden in April 2019:

  • Monday, 1 April 2019
Deep-dive interactive knowledge exchange (KTP) workshop including sharing and learning from examples and ideating new solutions.

  • Tuesday, 2 April 2019
ISGAN public workshop titled The future of Electricity of Electricity Markets in a Low Carbon Economy, including topics on experimental sandboxes, flexibility & power system optimization, and digitalization.

  • Wednesday, 3 April 2019
Technical visit to smart energy projects.

Target Audience

ISGAN is targeting smart grid experts from the regulatory, policy making and research communities to actively participate in our knowledge exchange initiative which will take place in conjunction with the ISGAN 17th Executive Committee meeting during the Stockholm Smart Grid week from 1st to 5th April 2019.
